2017 Hyundai i30 Revealed

The third-generation i30 has been revealed ahead of its official unveil at the upcoming 2016 Paris Motor Show in the first week of October. The car will first hit European shores by early 2017 and it will be the first-ever high-performance model under Hyundai’s ‘N’ brand.

Speaking of the design, the i30 is similar to all the latest cars in Hyundai’s portfolio. That means that the styling is sharp and edgy thanks to the adoption of the automaker’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. The front of the i30 features the new signature grille (cascading grille) which was first seen with the second-generation i10 facelift (Grand i10). The headlights feature a three-projector setup, offering all-LED lighting (both high and low beam), fog lamps, vertically placed daytime running (DRL) LEDs along with projector fog lamps, and also comes with an option of 17, 16 and 15-inch alloy wheels.

Now let's take a look on the inside of the i30 and see what features Hyundai has provided for the hot hatch. The dashboard features a symmetric layout with a mounted touchscreen-based infotainment system (a five-inch and an eight-inch are on offer), an electronically adjustable driver’s seat with memory settings, inductive wireless charging for smartphones, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. And yes, the car gets a massive boot capacity of 395 litres.  

Safety wise, the i30 is heavily equipped with latest features such as seven airbags including a knee airbag, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Driver Attention Alert (DAA), Blind Spot Detector (BSD), Rear-Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and High Beam Assist (HBA).

Mechanically, the i30 will be the first car from Hyundai's portfolio to be equipped with the 1.4-litre T-GDi turbocharged petrol motor, which produces 140PS of power and churns out 242Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic). Other motors that can be offered are the 1.0-litre T-GDi three-cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol, along with a 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine.

Loaded with so many features, the Hyundai i30 falls under the premium hatchback segment and, if the car makes its way to India, it will be priced around the Rs 14 to Rs 16 lakh mark, which we assume is a lot for a hot hatch.
