It uses massive 245-cross section tyres, clearly indicating its performance mettle

Honda has officially revealed the prototype of the 2017 Honda Civic Type R at the Paris Motor Show and it looks like it’s going to eat every other hot hatch around it! You might already know that the car is based on the 10th Generation Civic, which was revealed last year. However, unlike the standard car, this Type R looks utterly bonkers even over the Type Rs that we have seen in the past.

To start with, the prototype is wrapped with a brushed aluminium exterior wrap which gives it a really dark and dramatic appeal. Then there is the insane body work such as the cavernous scoops and carbon fibre splitter on the front bumper. The headlamps are now smoked black along with the grille, which flaunts the signature red Honda badge that every Type R bears.

Move to the sides and wider body is clearly evident, courtesy the wider fender flares that are there to accommodate the massive 245 cross section tyres, and a sleek red dash that circles around the bottom of the car's front and rear bumper along with the side skirts.

The front fender carries a tall ventilation duct right before the front door starts. The duct clearly indicates the amount of heat dissipation required by its performance-oriented motor, which hasn’t been revealed by Honda as of yet.

The rear end the car is what I like the most. It gets a shamelessly large rear wing that can make an F22’s rear wing say sorry. Not to mention, the carbon fibre diffuser with three centrally mounted exhaust tips, which, I'm sure, will sound insane, along with a highly raked rear window which blatantly screams fast!

Speaking of fast, there’s no clear indication of the motor the next-gen Civic Type R will use. However, going by the hood scoop we can safely assume it’ll be a turbocharged motor, since the scoop is usually present for mounting the turbo intercooler beneath it. Also, the current gen Civic Type R uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre i-VTEC motor, so the new car could use the same motor with slightly more power. The current Civic Type R is also the fastest forward wheel drive hatchback on the Nurburgring, so expect the new car to be faster than the current one.

More details about the car might be revealed when it will be publicly showcased the Paris Motor Show. When launched, it will be competing against the likes of VW Golf R and the Ford Focus RS in the European markets.

As far as India is concerned, Honda has hinted a few months ago that it might revive the Civic sedan in the country. But, following a very weak market for high-end performance hot hatches, the Type R will possibly never make it to the Indian car scene.
