Nissan will bring back the X-Trail in 2016 and have officially released detailed specifications for the upcoming SUV. Read on to know more.

Nissan X-Trail India front

The Nissan X-Trail has been around for a while in India. Said to be too advanced for its time, the X-Trail is now set to make a comeback in India with a new petrol hybrid drivetrain making it the first SUV in this price point to come with true hybrid running gear. The new Nissan X-Trail will essentially be placed at a price point slightly higher than the likes of much larger SUVs like the Ford Endeavour and the Toyota Fortuner and similar to compact luxury SUVs like the Audi Q3, the new BMW X1 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA.

The engine on the X-Trail, as we mentioned earlier, will be a hybrid. The compact SUV will come with a 2.0-litre motor that will make 144PS of peak power at 6000rpm and 200Nm of peak torque at 4400rpm. The electric motor that will run in tandem with the petrol engine will make 30PS of peak power and 160Nm of peak torque. In combination, the electric and petrol engine make 174PS ok peak power and 360Nm of peak torque making it comparable to most other petrol SUVs in the Rs 30-35 lakh price range.

The X-Trail will not come with a manual gearbox option in India and will only get an automatic CVT gearbox that will go well with the Hybrid powerplant. The X-Trail will also get independent suspension both in the front and the rear with a McPherson strut setup in the front and a multi link setup in the rear. The Nissan X-Trail compact SUV will get disc brakes all around with 17-inch wheels and 225/65 R17 tyres to go with its on-road presence.

In terms of overall dimensions, the Nissan X-Trail is 4640mm in length, 1820mm in width and stands 1710mm tall. The new compact SUV has a wheel base of 2705mm and offers decent ground clearance at 210mm. The X-Trail will only get a 5 seater configuration and will have a kerb weight of 1538kg. The high weight is mainly because of the Lithium Ion batteries that the X-Trail carries.
