Triumph’s modern classic range has just received its latest member and, joy of joys, it’s a new café racer. Functioning as the Thruxton’s little brother, the Street Cup is based on the Street Twin. Design elements such as the Alcantara-effect bullet seat with a removable rear seat cowl, bar-end mirrors and body-coloured fly screen do well to make the Street Cup a tasty piece of eye candy. Triumph tops it off with hand-applied coach lining and the option of two-tone paint schemes:
•Racing Yellow and Silver Ice with Jet Black hand-applied coach lining and Racing Yellow wheel Spin-striping.
•Jet black and Silver Ice with gold hand-applied coach lining and gold wheel pin-striping.
There’s a lot of attention to detail too. The Street Twin’s fork gaiters, for example, are replaced with sporty fork protectors. It also gets Thruxton R-styled foot-pegs, gold-coloured engine badges, and black indicators with amber lenses, while the cast wheels feature the same design as the Street Twin’s.
The Street Cup features a more aggressive ride stance than the Street Twin and the seat height has been raised by 30mm as well. The ‘Ace’ style handlebars are new and sit relatively lower and, while the suspension travel remains untouched (120mm at the front and rear), the rear suspension units are longer. Triumph has also thrown in a floating 310mm front disc brake with a Nissin twin-piston caliper, while the 255mm rear disc brake with a Nissin two-piston caliper is the same unit as the Street Twin’s.
Powering the latest addition to Triumph’s entry level range is the familiar ‘high-torque’ 900cc, parallel twin engine. The output figures remain untouched and available at the twist of the throttle (which features ride-by-wire) is 55PS of power and 80Nm of torque. The retro-ride isn’t starved for tech either, and gets ABS and switchable traction control too, apart from an LED tail light, USB charging port and immobilizer.
Customization options, you ask? Well, there are around 120 options available to modify the Street Cup’s styling, comfort, practicality and performance. With a price of £8,600 (approximately Rs 7.28 lakh), the new racer is a pretty penny dearer than the Street Twin (£7,500/around Rs 6.35 lakh). If/when launched in India next year, the Street Cup could be priced around the Rs 8-8.50 lakh mark.
