Suzuki showcased the updated V-Strom 1000 and XT variants at the ongoing 2016 INTERMOT motorcycle event in Germany. The update comes along with the introduction of new editions of the other models manufactured by Suzuki. For the V-Strom 1000 and XT versions, Suzuki has updated the adventure motorcycles with a bold new fairing design that now comes with straight lines starting from the nose of the bike towards its fuel tank. The windscreen has been re-profiled to reduce wind noise and rider fatigue and both, the angle and height can be adjusted. Thanks to Suzuki’s patent mechanism, the windscreen angle can be adjusted by hand, while the height has been increased by 49mm.
The new versions of the V-Strom 1000 and 1000XT continue to be powered by the same 1037cc V-twin motor that has been updated to comply with Euro 4 norms. While the spec sheet does not mention any change in the power ratings, the engine develops 101PS of power and 103Nm of peak torque mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
The biggest update is the ABS system on both models. The motorcycle now comes with Suzuki’s new Motion Track and Combination Brake System which aids in rider control during braking. In a scenario of sudden braking in straight line or while cornering, the system allows the rider to stick to the intended line. The system will also adjust the brake pressure depending upon the lean angle to provide maximum possible traction. The Bosch five-axis IMU, sensors on both wheels and pressure in the brake lines will be analysed by the ABS control unit to adjust the pressure to be applied at the brake calipers. Also, if the pressure in the front caliper goes beyond a pre-determined limit the combination system will automatically apply pressure to the rear brakes to increase stability and manoeuvrability.
Other updates include handguards with larger handlebar vibration dampers and lower engine protection as standard fitment. Suzuki is yet to announce the new pricing for either version of the V-Strom which is likely to reach dealership in the international market by March 2017. In India, Suzuki currently has the standard V-Strom 1000 in the product range which will be replaced by the updated model after its international launch.
