The new Ducati Monster 797 employs the same 803cc, air-cooled, L-Twin motor from the Ducati Scrambler family

Now in terms of displacement, the Monster 797 is the smallest member in the Monster family but also holds the distinction of being the most important. The new Ducati Monster 797 will be positioned as an entry-level bike in the Monster portfolio. It is the most vital bike for the Italian bikemaker as the Monster range is the highest selling Ducati ever. The bike retains the styling similar to the Monster 821 which isn’t a bad thing in our opinion. The few distinguishing design elements are redesigned single exhaust muffler, red frame, 10-spoke alloy wheels and the missing LED DRL’s.

So what’s new one may ask and the answer is a lot. First and foremost is the 803cc L-twin power plant. The twin-cylinder motor is the same air-cooled mill as seen on the Scrambler range. The Ducati Monster 797 has a power output of 77PS and the engine is mated to a 6-speed unit. Being an entry-level offering, the Monster 797 loses out on electronic goodies like traction control and ride modes. But what it does get are Brembo M4.32 calipers for braking prowess and the Bosch 9.1MP ABS system. The bike runs on 120/70 17 front tyre, and a 180/55 17 rear which are shod with are Pirelli Diablo Rosso II rubber. Seat height is also low at 805mm mostly to better suit Asian riders. The tubular steel trellis frame is suspended on KYB 43mm USD fork, and preload/rebound adjustable Sachs monoshock at the back. The Ducati Monster 797 weighs 193kg and we expect the new offering to be launched in India by first half of 2016.
