Ever since the BMW G 310 GS was caught testing few months back it has generated lots of curiosity among bikers especially in India. The test mules looked production ready and BMW Motorrad finally unveiled them at the 2016 EICMA motorcycle show in Italy. The new BMW G 310 GS adventure bike is the second offering from the German biker in the sub-500cc category after the G 310 R that was showcased last year. The new adventure bike from BMW will be manufactured in India by TVS Motors while it has been designed and developed in Germany.
The new motorcycle is based on the G 310 R but gets 19-inch front wheel and long-travel suspension to better suit its off-road needs. The styling of the new motorcycle is based on the larger displacement GS bikes with similarly styled stubby front beak, radiator shrouds, headlamp cowl and tank design. The exhaust muffler is also same but is more upswept for better clearance while the bike rides on Metzeler Tourance dual-purpose tyres. It also gets full LCD instrument console while it tips the scale at 169.5kg. Braking is done by disc brakes on both ends while ABS is standard.
Powering the bike will be the same 313cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor as seen on the street bike producing 35PS of power and 28Nm of peak torque. Power will be transmitted to the rear-wheel via a 6-speed gearbox. The BMW G 310 GS is expected to make its debut in the European market by first half of 2017 but Indian bikers might have to wait longer as the G 310 R hasn’t been launched yet. BMW Motorrad will be entering the Indian market officially next year and expect the G 310 GS to hit showrooms by late 2017.
