Volkswagen today displayed its new Tiguan SUV for the first time in India. The German car maker had announced plans last year of launching the Tiguan in India in 2016, and has showcased the SUV at the Auto Expo prior to its launch. The Tiguan is a compact SUV based on Volkswagen's universal MQB platform, the same as the current Skoda Octavia and Volkswagen Passat. Internationally the Tiguan is powered by a range of petrol and diesel engines though for India Volkswagen has chosen to showcase the SUV with its 2.0 TDI diesel engine which produces 150PS in this guise.

Update: Volkswagen Tiguan SUV Launched At Rs 27.98 Lakh!

The new generation Tiguan broke cover internationally last year, and could prove to be a game changer for Volkswagen in India with its sharp, sporty design, the tried and tested 2.0 litre TDI engine, as also the premium build quality the brand is known for. Base versions will be offered as front wheel drive, though higher variants of the Tiguan are expected to get all-wheel drive as an option too. The all-wheel drive variants will also get selectable modes for different terrain, which should enhance the Tiguan's abilities as an off-roader.

When launched, the Tiguan will face off against established players like the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour as also the recently launched Chevrolet Trailblazer and will mark Volkswagen's entry in this popular segment. The Tiguan though is expected to be high on safety features, creature comforts and equipment, and be a cut above its competition.

Expect it to be priced in the 28 to 30 lakh rupee bracket when it lands here in early 2017.
