The 2022 edition of the prestigious rally kicks off with more announcements for the future being revealed

This week saw the 2022 motorsport season begin with the prestigious Dakar 2022 rally in Saudi Arabia. Aside from that, we had future announcements in the international motorsport area as well as back home. Here’s everything that transpired over the last seven days:

Dakar 2022

This week saw the first two stages of Dakar 2022 take place, running from Jeddah, to Al Qaisumah. As things stand,  Nasser Al-Attiyah (cars), and  Sam Sunderland (bikes) lead the overall standings. As for our Indian presence in the rally, the Hero MotoSports team of Aaron Mare and Joaquim Rodrigues are 9th and 18th overall, with Harith Noah, the sole Indian rider in the rally currently ranked 32nd in the bikes category.

Formula E

While Formula E is currently preparing for the new Gen3 era that will kick off from the 2022-23 season, the organisers are already planning for the Gen4 era. Reports suggest Formula E is considering a switch to hydrogen power as an alternative to the all-electric powertrains we currently have.

As work on the new CoASTT racetrack in Coimbatore continues to be underway, we’ve gotten a more detailed look at the circuit’s layout. The 3.8km circuit will comprise 14 turns, with F2 lap times claimed to be around the 1:28 second mark. There will also be a 1.016km CIK Grade1 karting track within the infield of the main racetrack.
