In April, save for the two new premium SUVs that debuted in our market, most launches have been model year updates. But May is shaping up to be exciting as we could see some new models. One of them is purely aimed at enthusiasts and has been eagerly awaited for quite some time. There’s also a confirmed debut of a heavily refreshed people-mover, along with the launch of facelifted version of a premium hatchback. Here’s a look at all the launches May has in store for us.
Confirmed Debut Date: May 8, 2025
Late in April, Kia had confirmed the launch of the 2025 Carens MPV, which was teased for the first time. The 2025 Kia Carens, which will be heavily refreshed, will be called the Clavis. It will feature a heavily revised exterior and interior design. Notably, it will be offered alongside the current Carens.
The teaser also revealed some key features such as a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof and ADAS. The upcoming Clavis is likely to carry forward the current 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, along with turbo-petrol and diesel engine options.
Expected Launch Date: May 21, 2025
The Tata Altroz is expected to get its first ever facelift on May 21. The spy images reveal refreshed styling with updated lighting elements as well as refreshed bumpers and alloys. You can also expect minor updates to the interior and feature set as well with the 2025 Altroz. As for the powertrain options, the current petrol, turbo-petrol (Altroz Racer), diesel, and CNG choices are likely to be carried forward. Expect the prices for the 2025 Altroz to command a slight premium over the current range, which starts from Rs 6.65 lakh (ex-showroom).
Expected Launch: May-end
MG’s Windsor EV is expected to be updated with a bigger 50.6 kWh battery pack option along with model year updates. While no changes are expected in terms of design, the updated Windsor will likely borrow features such as powered front-row seats and level-2 ADAS from its global version.
Notably, the 50.6 kWh battery pack is already offered with the international-spec Windsor EV, which is sold as the Wuling Cloud EV. It uses the same 136 PS electric motor setup and delivers a CLTC-claimed range of 460 km..
Expected Launch: May-end
While enthusiasts still await an official announcement, Volkswagen is likely to launch the Golf GTI by May-end. It will arrive as a fully imported unit, and unofficial bookings for the hot hatch are already underway across major cities. The Golf GTI is powered by a 265 PS / 370 Nm 2-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Updates have been made underneath the skin to ensure the Golf GTI keeps enthusiasts happy with a fun driving experience. Expect prices to start from around Rs 52 lakh (ex-showroom).
While launches from luxury carmakers did not make it to this list, you can expect last minute updates from brands like Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW, in the month of May. Amongst all the cars mentioned above, which launch are you most excited for? Let us know in the comments below.
