If you’re looking for a large family SUV, it might be a good time to head to your nearest dealership

New launches kept coming as we entered the second week of August. Alongside mid-size and full-size SUV news, two CNG vehicles entered the market as well, for buyers looking for a more budget-friendly alternative to pricey petrol and diesel runabouts.

For these updates and more that you may have missed last week, here’s our weekly roundup of car news: 

Hyundai Tucson launched 

Hyundai announced the prices of its all-new flagship Tucson, the first vehicle in the carmaker’s lineup to get advanced driver assistance and active safety tech (ADAS). Apart from the advanced safety features, it also gets premium features such as a powered tailgate, dual-zone AC and panoramic sunroof. It’s available with petrol and diesel automatic drivetrains with optional all-wheel drive (AWD) offered with the diesel unit. 

Mahindra Scorpio Classic unveiled 

The Scorpio Classic broke cover with a revised front fascia, new all-aluminium diesel engine and tweaked mechanicals. A predecessor to the Scorpio-N, the Classic will slot below the new generation model in Mahindra’s lineup. 

Maruti Swift S-CNG Launched

With fuel prices high and rising, the timing couldn’t be better for another natural gas-powered Maruti. The Swift S-CNG was launched in two manual-only mid-spec variants, VXI and ZXI, that are powered by a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine tuned for 77PS on CNG (89PS on petrol mode). 

Maruti Alto K10 bookings were opened 

Ahead of its launch on August 18, Maruti started taking orders for its upcoming Alto K10 compact hatchback. It’ll slot between the 800cc Alto (to be re-named Alto 800) and the S-Presso in the carmaker’s lineup. It’ll be powered by Maruti’s new 1-litre K10C petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual or AMT automatic gearbox. 

MG Hector teased 

MG Motor gave us a glimpse of the new Hector that’s expected to be unveiled soon. It’ll slot above the existing SUV, presenting a more premium alternative with features such as ADAS and a 360-degree camera. It’ll be launched at the end of 2022 as a rival to the Mahindra XUV700 and Jeep Compass
