Quick Highlights:
New e-scooter design patented in Indonesia
Features a completely different design compared to the iQube
Multiple names trademarked by TVS, likely for its upcoming electric scooters
TVS has been on a roll. With several launches in the petrol-powered segment, the manufacturer now plans to elevate its electric offerings not only in India but also globally. Another market which is comparable to ours in the sheer number of two-wheelers is Indonesia, and TVS plans to increase its market share with its upcoming electric scooter.
The trademarked design of the upcoming electric scooter in Indonesia looks rather quirky, to say the least. An overall boxy design, which is paired with large wheels (possibly a 14-inch front and a 12-inch rear wheel), screams Indonesia, where large wheels are very common on scooters.
At the front, the EV does get a similar LED DRL as the iQube, with the headlight located on the handlebar and a large windscreen as well. The side profile is highlighted by the long, bench-like seat. At the rear, the minimalistic design quotient continues as the scooter gets a slim taillight, with integrated indicators. The rear body panels in particular, reminds us of the Ather Rizta.
As far as the underpinnings are concerned, the EV does get twin-shock absorbers at the rear, but the motor seems to be a swingarm-mounted unit rather than the hub-mounted one as the TVS iQube. This is unlikely to be the India-bound electric scooter that TVS is currently working on.
While TVS already has the iQube range, the Hosur-based bikemaker’s upcoming electric scooter is likely to be a sporty EV in our opinion, particularly to go against sporty electric scooters such as the Ather 450X and Ola S1 Pro Gen 3. Granted, TVS has the X-factor in the form of well…. X, it is way too expensive for what it offers, and is more of a technology showcase. Also, the patented design doesn’t look sporty enough, which is why we mentioned it is unlikely to come to India.
TVS trademarked multiple names last year. This includes the “TVS Orbiter”, “TVS EV-One”, and “TVS O”. One of these, (likely the TVS Orbiter) could be the name for the upcoming Indonesia-bound electric scooter.
It’s also important to note that TVS currently sells only the iQube S with the 3.4kWh battery pack in Indonesia. The upcoming Indonesia-spec electric scooter, once materialized, should go a long way in establishing a greater authority in the country’s EV segment.
