South Africa-spec Maruti Suzuki Jimny Base Variant Gets Lesser Safety Features Than India-spec Model

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door has been launched in South Africa with a similar design and specifications. While the overall specifications and features are similar to the India-spec model, a closer look at the brochure reveals that the entry-level model has lesser safety features than the one offered here.

The South African Jimny 5-door base variant comes with dual airbags only, whereas the model we get in India is equipped with six airbags across all variants. Apart from lesser airbags, both versions get standard safety features such as ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, brake assist, and ISOFIX mounts for child seats.

Other features on board the Jimny include a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, cruise control, and keyless entry.

The Suzuki Jimny 5-door is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 102PS/130Nm for the South African model, while the Jimny we get here delivers 105PS/134Nm. It is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission and comes with a four-wheel-drive system with a low-range transfer case.

In India, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door is priced between Rs 12.74 lakh and Rs 15.05 lakh (ex-showroom). It rivals the likes of the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha, both of which are currently offered only in 3-door versions.
