  • Kushaq and Slavia have put Skoda back on the radar.
  • The MQB-A0-IN offerings have helped India become Skoda’s third largest market.
  • Both models will get MY23 updates to keep the momentum going.
  • Skoda aims to finish 2022 with sales crossing the 50,000 mark.

Skoda Auto India is currently basking in the success of its India 2.0 programme, under which it bought two cars – the Kushaq and Slavia – for a much needed boost in the country. And well, the efforts definitely seem to have paid off as the carmaker has sold 44,500 units so far this year (January to October 2022), making India the third best country in Skoda’s radar globally.

To keep the momentum going, the Czech carmaker will be giving both its MQB-A0-IN offerings model year 2023 (MY23) updates. Now, we don’t know what the carmaker is planning to do for MY23, but you can definitely expect new feature additions, extra variants and minor rejigs to keep things fresh.

In 2022, we saw Skoda introducing the Monte Carlo and Anniversary Edition of the Kushaq. A similar approach could be taken in the future. The Slavia is yet to get new variant additions since its launch and the Monte Carlo trim with a fancy set of clothes does look like a tempting deal. Plus, when the Slavia turns one next year, the carmaker could bring a special Anniversary Edition which was the case with the Kushaq

Another possibility we could see in the future is the reintroduction of the Rider trim, which was popular in the erstwhile Rapid and first-generation Octavia. This trim packed only the bare essentials, but was priced attractively, undercutting its entire segment. Case in point was the Rapid Rider, which was offered at the price of a top-end Dzire. So, a Kushaq Rider and Slavia Rider with a similar approach does sound like a tempting aspect.
