  • Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has two plants in India: Chakan and Aurangabad.
  • The Group exports vehicles like the T-Cross (Taigun).
  • Skoda sells 5,608 vehicles in March 2022, its highest ever in India.
  • Next models include a sub-4 metre SUV from Skoda, and probably the new Polo from VW.

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has rolled out 15 lakh vehicles from its facilities in the country on April 1. The milestone vehicle was a Skoda Kushaq, finished in orange. The Volkswagen Group, currently run by Skoda in India, has two facilities: one in Pune, where it develops its volume sellers like the Kushaq and Taigun, and another in Aurangabad where it assembles CKD models from the house of Skoda, Volkswagen, and Audi. The milestone is a combination of vehicles from all the brands.

It must be noted that the 15 lakh milestone is not just for the domestic market, but including 5.45 lakh exports. The Group has been exporting models like the Polo, Vento (Polo sedan), and recently the T-Cross (essentially the Taigun) from our shores. Furthermore, we expect its newest offerings – the Slavia and upcoming Virtus – to be exported to other countries as well.

The Volkswagen Group has been present in India for over two decades, and for most of the part, has enjoyed reasonable success in the nation, and is further cemented by its India 2.0 models like the Skoda Kushaq, Skoda Slavia, and VW Taigun.

You have a case in point by looking at Skoda’s March sales figures: 5,608 units, an almost five-fold growth compared to the same period last year. Plus, Skoda sold 13,120 cars in the first quarter of 2022, around 9,000 cars more than the same time last year. These are the highest ever figures by the Czech carmaker. No doubt, the credits goes to the new Kushaq and Slavia as well as Skoda’s CKD offerings like the Octy, Superb, and Kodiaq.
