Alongside styling updates, the SUV will get a redesigned interior and a major safety update

  • 2022 MG Hector is expected to debut in India by the end of the year.

  • Previous teasers have revealed that it’ll get a 14-inch touchscreen and driver-assistance features.

  • Expected to get similar petrol and diesel powertrains in India as the existing Hector.

  • Will be priced at a premium over the current Hector that costs Rs 14.42 lakh onwards (ex-showroom).

The facelifted MG Hector has been spied on completely undisguised overseas and the spy shot reveals the SUV’s revised front end. The midsize SUV is expected to arrive in India by the end of 2022. It’ll rival the Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier and Kia Seltos as well as the Mahindra XUV700 and Jeep Compass.

What the spy shot reveals

A teaser from MG India had already clued us into Hector’s revised front-end design incorporating a massive diamond-pattern chrome grille taking the centre stage. It’s flanked by a pair of LED DRLs at the top, with LED projector headlights placed lower down within angular gloss black surrounds, like before.

A faux skid plate is placed at the base of the bumper with an air dam and chrome accents. Overall, the 2022 Hector’s front-end styling is more angular and straight-edged than before. We expect this aspect of the SUV to get the bulk of aesthetic changes, and the SUV’s overall silhouette and rear-end styling should remain familiar.

2022 MG Hector powertrains and features

In India, the 2022 Hector is not expected to receive any major powertrain updates. It should get the same 143PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol ICE, 143PS 1.5-litre petrol mild-hybrid and 170PS 2-litre diesel power units as the current SUV. While the diesel and petrol mild-hybrid units get a six-speed manual gearbox, the ICE-only petrol powertrain is offered with the option of a CVT automatic.

The new Hector will get an updated list of features with a new 14-inch portrait-style touchscreen on the dashboard. It will also get driver-assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and forward collision mitigation, similar to the existing MG Astor SUV.

Apart from these updates, the new Hector should be as impeccably equipped as the current model with features such as a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging and heated outer rear-view mirrors.

The 2022 MG Hector is expected to exist alongside its current-generation version, priced at a premium over the latter’s prices that range between Rs 14.42 lakh and Rs 20.35 lakh (ex-showroom).
