Highlight for the EV remains to be the larger battery pack for an improved range

  • The new teaser reveals wireless phone charging onboard.
  • New features include adjustable regenerative braking, electronic park brake and auto-hold function.

  • Expected to be priced around Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom).

  • Likely to get a bigger battery paired to a more powerful electric motor.

A new teaser from Tata has revealed the presence of wireless phone charging onboard the Nexon EV Max, with its dock housed in front of the centre armrest and will be exclusive to the long-range SUV. Pre-launch bookings for it are underway at select dealerships.

Other new features for the EV includes an illuminated gear selector with Park mode, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and adjustable regenerative braking for a better driving experience. It’s also expected to get cruise control, auto-dimming IRVM, and the ventilated front seats from the ICE-powered Nexon.

These will be offered in addition to the features available with the standard model, which include a 7-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car tech, electric sunroof, a semi-digital instrument cluster, a Harman sound system, dual airbags and a rear parking camera.

The highlight for the electric sub-compact SUV remains its updated powertrain; likely to comprise a bigger 40kWh battery unit, which will improve upon the current SUV’s claimed range of 312km with its 30.2kWh battery pack. It is also expected to pack a more potent 136PS electric motor (up from 129PS) and its battery pack should be compatible with fast charging.

Tata claims that the electric sub-4m SUV will be able to make a roundtrip between Mumbai and Pune on a single charge, which translates to a real-world range of about 300km.

As for the design, Tata has given the long-range Nexon EV minute cosmetic changes such as revised 5-spoke alloy wheels and rear disc brakes. The overall design remains largely untouched and it seems to have an all-black Dark Edition as well.

The Nexon EV Max, slated for an India launch on May 11, will sit at the top of the Nexon’s variant list. While the standard model’s price ranges from Rs 14.79 to Rs 17.4 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India), the Nexon EV Max is expected to retail at a premium of around Rs 18 lakh. It will be sold alongside the standard model, and its pricing is expected to be more competitive than the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric.
