The carmaker is also set to introduce a new torque converter automatic option

  • All Maruti Suzuki cars with the K15B petrol engine are set to be updated with the new engine.

  • The K15C features DualJet technology and a mild hybrid system for better fuel economy.

  • A higher-spec CNG variant will also be available in the Ertiga.

  • Select automatic variants could come with paddle shifters.

Maruti has revealed that the upcoming 2022 Ertiga MPV will be powered by a new K15C 1.5-litre NA petrol engine. The new Dualjet engine is more advanced, and it’s expected to offer a slight power bump and better fuel economy. It’ll later replace the current 1.5-litre petrol engine and is expected to make its way to the updated versions of the Ciaz, XL6, S-Cross and Vitara Brezza.

According to the carmaker, the new K15C engine will be offered with the option of a new automatic transmission – a 6-speed torque converter that replaces the older 4-speed automatic. For the first time, you’ll be able to get paddle shifters in a Maruti! The engine will be paired with a mild hybrid system similar to the current K15B engine.

Baleno's 360-degree camera for representational purposes

Several feature updates are also in the plans for the updated Ciaz, Ertiga and SUV models. Similar to the Baleno, they’ll get six airbags and a 360-degree camera, a new infotainment touchscreen and an improved sound system.

Select models and variants will feature another accessory we haven’t seen in recent Maruti vehicles – a sunroof.

We aren’t sure of the new K15C engine’s specifications yet. The current K15B 1.5-litre petrol power plant is paired with a 12-volt mild-hybrid system, and it makes 104PS and 138Nm. Going by Maruti’s recently updated K12C 1.2-litre petrol engine (in the Baleno) and K10C 1-litre petrol (in the Celerio), we could also see improvements in fuel efficiency.

We expect to get a better idea of the engine’s power figures and other specs at the Ertiga’s launch later in April. The MPV also get a CNG option in the higher-spec ZXI trim level. The launch is expected in the coming days, and bookings are already on at dealerships and on the official Maruti Suzuki website.

The new K15C engine will also be offered in the upcoming Vitara Brezza facelift, and updated versions of the Ciaz, S-Cross and XL6 later in 2022.
