Although it’s still heavily ‘camouflaged’ with flower arrangements, we already know what the facelifted SUV looks like

  • MG has begun the facelifted Hector’s production in India.

  • The SUV is expected to be launched in January, slotting above its predecessor.

  • It has a redesigned front fascia and a revamped cabin with a larger portrait touchscreen.

  • Equipped with driver-assistance features such as adaptive cruise control and forward collision prevention.

  • Prices are expected to start at Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom).

In a new social media post commemorating the Hector’s one lakh production milestone, MG Motor has quietly revealed the facelifted Hector SUV’s production is underway. We expect that the carmaker will launch the next-generation Hector, which will be sold alongside its predecessor, in January 2023.

What’s new in the facelifted Hector?

MG has been quiet about its upcoming SUV, revealing small glimpses of the SUV in teasers. Heck, even during the rollout, the carmaker covered the grille up with flowers to hide the fact that it’s the updated model. However, the 2023 Hector has already been revealed in leaked images, and it looks like this:

The majority of changes are to the front-end styling, where the new Hector gets a gaping grille with a diamond chrome pattern. It’s flanked by headlight clusters with black surrounds placed on a chiseled bumper, where the ADAS sensor is placed. This sensor is also visible in the image MG India had shared:

ADAS stands for advanced driver assistance and active safety features, and the Hector is expected to offer a similar suite as the Astor. This should include features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and forward collision prevention.

No major changes to the side profile, but the rear-end will probably get connected tail lamps (with a LED strip) and redesigned bumpers.

The 2023 MG Hector will get a redesigned cabin with a portrait-style 14-inch infotainment touchscreen at the centre of the dashboard. It’ll also have a digital driver’s display, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, more connected features and other features that the well-equipped Hector already offers.

On the safety front, it should have six airbags and a 360-degree camera in addition to the aforementioned ADAS.

The facelifted Hector will get the same powertrain options as the existing SUV – a 143PS 1.5-litre petrol engine (also available with a mild-hybrid system) and a 2-litre diesel unit with 170PS, likely paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. The petrol engine can also be had with a CVT.

MG is likely to launch the facelifted Hector in January, likely to be limited to higher variants. We expect the carmaker to price it at Rs 18 lakh onwards (ex-showroom). Its chief rivals will be the Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Tata Harrier.
