Can an off-roader be as good as a sophisticated SUV in terms of the rear seat experience?

The 5-door Thar Roxx is Mahindra’s newest SUV on our shores. The Thar Roxx with its premium and spacious cabin has changed the image and identity of mass market off-road SUVs that are known for rugged interiors with very little equipment on offer. The 3-door Thar was not a very family friendly SUV but the Thar Roxx’s spacious and comfortable interior makes for a practical purchase and also puts it in contention with some of the more comfort-oriented SUVs.

In this article, we will be comparing the Thar Roxx’s rear seat experience with that of the Scorpio N which belongs to the same family but has a different demeanor. Read on if you are in the market looking for a capable SUV with rear seats that will keep you and your family comfortable at all times.

Let’s begin

Thar Roxx vs Scorpio N: Rear Seat Experience

Before starting, let’s first understand their seating configurations. The Thar Roxx is a 5-seater SUV, while the Scorpio N gets a third row as well with the option of choosing between the 6-and 7-seater layouts. Since the Thar Roxx is a 5-seater, we will be comparing the second row seats of both these cars.

Starting with the Thar Roxx, getting in and out of the SUV still feels a little tricky and is something that will be difficult for older passengers. The rear seats offer good legroom and headroom, even if you are someone who is around 6 feet tall. Apart from that, the seats are wide enough which means 5 passengers can fit easily in if needed.

You get good practicality features inside the cabin such as USB-C charging port, rear AC vents and a few spaces where you can keep your phone. What elevates the experience further is the fact that the seats can be reclined as well if you intend to take a quick nap or want a more relaxed and comfortable seating position.

The Mahindra Scorpio N on the other hand comes with either bench seats or captain seats. The bench seats provide ample space for three occupants, and due to its slightly wider dimensions the shoulder room is a tad bit more than the Thar Roxx as well. The kneeroom and legroom offered are good enough for taller passengers, and the headroom is excellent to say the least.

Even though the bench seats of both these cars are comfortable, the Scorpio’s captain seats provide the best experience. To take a look at the space and comfort of the Scorpio N’s third row, head over to our story.

The Scorpio N also comes with rear AC vents, a charging port. But, there is no compartment below the rear AC vents where you can keep your phone. The Scorpio N’s door pockets are hard to reach and not as easily accessible as that of the Thar Roxx. Additionally, the Thar Roxx also comes with a panoramic sunroof which gives the cabin an airy feeling. The Scorpio N on the other side gets a single-pane sunroof.

Scorpio N

In conclusion, yes, the Thar Roxx’s rear seats do match up to the level of the Scorpio N. However, the Scorpio N should be considered if you have a larger family. The captain seats along with the third row will be a good option to consider, especially if you have kids in your family. In fact, even in the front seats, the Scorpio N offers more space, larger seats and a bigger footwell making it more comfortable for users with a large build.

Getting inside the Thar Roxx is easier than it is in the Scorpio, and this is because it gets a grab handle which the Scorpio N does not. The Scorpio N is more spacious than the Thar Roxx thanks to its width, however, the middle passenger sits more comfortably in the Thar Roxx  due to the flat floor. In terms of premiumness, it is the Thar Roxx which inches further and provides a more enjoyable experience overall.

We have also compared the specifications of both these SUVs in detail and you can head over to our story to check that out.
