The carmaker has introduced new ‘E’ variants that offer more than the government-mandated standard safety features

  • Scorpio N E variants get stability control (ESP), hill assist and hill descent control.

  • E variants are limited to the Z2 and Z4 manual trim levels.

  • These variants command a premium of Rs 50,000 over the respective Z2 and Z4 variants.

  • Z4 automatic and higher-spec variants continue to get these features as standard.

  • The Scorpio N retails from Rs 11.99 lakh to Rs 23.9 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mahindra has rejigged the Scorpio N’s variant lineup to include new Z2 E and Z4 E variants equipped with stability control (ESP), hill descent control and hill start assist in addition to the SUV’s standard safety kit. With the Z2 E variant, Mahindra is introducing ESP and the other features to the base-spec Z2 trim that didn't get the feature previously. The two 'E' variants are priced at a premium of Rs 50,000 over the respective Z2 and Z4 manual variants without these features.

The Mahindra Scorpio N’s lower-end trims with all its standard safety kit intact is Rs 50,000 more expensive than before. Without the safety kit, you can still get the Scorpio N Z2 and Z4 variants for Rs 11.99 lakh and Rs 13.49 lakh. The Z4 automatic, Z6, Z8 and top-spec Z8 L continue to get these safety features at the same price as before.

Should I pay extra for the safety features?

With the rejig, Mahindra has allowed the buyer to decide if they want to pay extra for ESP, hill assist and hill descent control in the lower-end trims. Nevertheless, the Scorpio N still gets government-mandated features such as dual airbags, rear parking sensors and ABS. In addition, it also gets ISOFIX child seat mounts and all four disc brakes as standard.

The Mahindra Scorpio N had earlier bagged a full five-star rating in Global NCAP crash tests. It rivals the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, Hyundai Creta and Alcazar and Kia Seltos.
