  • Jeep Meridian to be revealed on March 29.
  • It will have plenty of Grand Cherokee-inspired styling touches on the outside.
  • Dashboard layout and features expected to be similar to Compass.
  • Likely to get 2-litre diesel and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engines.
  • Prices to start from around Rs 30 lakh.

Jeep India has confirmed that the Meridian three-row SUV will be revealed on March 29. Earlier, the American SUV giant had already given us a glimpse of what the SUV would look like in two images. But this time around, we would be able to experience the SUV in the flesh. The Meridian is actually based on the Compass’ underpinnings, but looks nothing like it.

In fact, the Meridian’s design is inspired by the more premium Grand Cherokee. The rugged boxy upright stance adds to the butchness of the design, while traditional elements like the 7-slat grille that blends into the LED headlights reminds you that it’s a Jeep. Sleek connected LED taillights add a touch of modernity to the overall design.

The dashboard design and layout, though, is similar to the Compass, with the only difference being the black and brown colour scheme. Naturally, the third-row seats are the highlight, and while the teaser image reveals stadium-like seating, leg space seems to be tight, so it could be best reserved for children or pets.

In terms of features, we expect it to be identical to the Compass, which gets a digital driver’s display, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech, powered front seats with ventilation, and a wireless phone charger.

Further, the Brazil-spec model, called the Commander, gets a 10-speaker 450W Harman Kardon sound system, Alexa in-vehicle functions, and ADAS. We hope these features are offered in the Indian market as well.

Jeep has confirmed three powertrain options for the Meridian. One will be the 2-litre diesel (with more horses, hopefully) while Stellantis’ 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine will likely be added later. Manual and automatic transmissions are likely to be in the offing, while the optional all-wheel drive is likely to be limited to the diesel motor.

Prices of the Jeep Meridian are likely to start from around Rs 30 lakh, putting it in contention with the Skoda Kodiaq TSI, Toyota Fortuner, and MG Gloster.
