Fancy having a closer look at the new Jeep Meridian? You will not have to wait for long as Jeep India has confirmed that test drive and display vehicles will start arriving at showrooms from mid-May. Pre-launch bookings for the three-row premium SUV which will rival the Toyota Fortuner are underway and the Meridian is slated for market launch in June. It will come in two trims: Limited and Limited (O).

The Meridian is a derivative of the Compass, but, at least on the outside, looks nothing like it. You can instantly tell it’s a Jeep thanks to the traditional 7-slat grille and sleek headlights. The taller roofline and the connected LED tail lights hark to the new Grand Cherokee, especially when viewed from the three-quarter rear angle. Sporty 18-inch alloys round off the design.

Inside, the Meridian’s dashboard has been lifted right off the Compass, but has a black/brown colour theme. This is no bad thing, as the Compass’ dashboard feels well made with good quality materials. The highlight, though, is the third row and sadly, the Meridian’s last row bench is best suited for kids or short adults, owing to the tight legroom and lack of underthigh support.
