For the uninitiated, Filmfare awards are the Indian equivalent of Oscars and this year, Hyundai was the main brand sponsor of the glamorous event. As a result, the newly launched Verna was showcased at the event, where it shared the same stage with the veteran Bollywood actor Salman Khan as he hosted the show alongside co-hosts Manish Paul and Ayushmann Khurrana.
It has to be said, Filmfare is the pinnacle of all awards that any Bollywood actor yearns to have on his/her shelf. So there’s no doubt that the stage was a highly prestigious one, but even still, the Verna didn’t feel or look out of place, especially with its red exterior complemented by the blacked-out bits of the Turbo variant, which were further highlighted under the heavy floodlights.
Yeah sure, the new Verna’s looks are polarising, but the front fascia which was facing the camera is probably the least polarising angle to view the new Verna from, according to this author. Apart from its looks, the Verna comes in four trim options with two engine options available: a 115PS, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine and 160PS, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol mill. The latter is actually a segment best in terms of on-paper output.

Hyundai has equipped the Verna with a ton of passenger comforts which include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Venue-like digital driver’s display, auto AC, wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, and a sunroof. It goes heavy on the safety front with six airbags, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child mounts as standard. In higher trims, it further gets electronic stability control (ESC), front parking sensors, all-wheel disc brakes, tyre-pressure monitoring system, and ADAS features.

Prices for the four trims of the Hyundai Verna juggle between Rs 10.89 lakh and Rs 17.37 lakh (ex-showroom). The Korean compact sedan fend off competition from the likes of the Skoda Slavia, VW Virtus, Honda City, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
