The compact SUV will be the first new model from the carmaker in India after a very long time

  • Honda’s next launch in the country will be the Creta-rivaling compact SUV.

  • As per reports, the compact SUV will be a global offering.

  • It could borrow the City’s petrol and strong-hybrid powertrain options.

  • ADAS functionality is likely to be a part of the safety offerings.

  • It is likely to make its debut this summer.

Honda is one of the few brands in the country that don’t have a vehicle gunning for them in the compact SUV space in India. However, this is about to change, thanks to a spied compact SUV model, which  will challenge the Creta, currently completing its testing miles. This SUV will be the carmaker’s first brand new model for India after a while, and it isn’t just destined for our markets alone.

Kunal Behl, senior VP and director of marketing and sales at Honda Cars India, reportedly said “Our second launch after the new City this year will be an ICE SUV which is a global product, with India as a lead country.”

So according to the reports, the upcoming compact SUV won’t be an India-specific model, but a global one with India as the base country, probably to be exported from our shores. Honda also plans to introduce an EV in its future lineup as it targets two-third of its total global sales to be EVs by 2030.

Apart from being spotted with ADAS features on board, there isn’t much information about the upcoming compact SUV, but a previous teaser did hint towards a rugged design. As for the powertrains, it could borrow its power house from the 2023 City, which gets the 121PS 1.5-litre petrol and 126PS 1.5-litre strong-hybrid engines. There won’t be a diesel engine option, though.

The Honda compact SUV could make its debut this summer, and we expect Honda to price it from around Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). It’ll finally put an end to Honda’s absence in the compact SUV space as it’ll rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, and Skoda Kushaq.
