This electric motorcycle is a futuristic tribute to the famed 1929 Majestic

  • The 1929 Majestic was a French 350cc motorcycle.
  • It was one of the first bikes to use hub-steering.
  • The Fuller Moto 2029 is based on the Zero FXS electric supermoto.

The French are quite well known for their eccentricity when it comes to automobiles. Case in point is the achingly beautiful and unique 1929 Majestic. Armed with an 11PS, 350cc OHV engine and a top speed of 90kmph, this motorcycle looked years ahead of other bikes in its time. It is also touted to be one of the first motorcycles to use hub-steering. Years later, Haas Moto Museum from Texas, USA, decided to create a futuristic version of this motorcycle and Atlanta-based Fuller Moto came to the rescue. The custom house has named this creation, the 2029.

Of course, building a futuristic iteration commands the need for a futuristic source of power. For this, they used just the right kind of motorcycle: A Zero. To be precise, they used the Zero FXS electric supermoto as the base. For reference, the Zero FXS used here packs around 160km range, 106Nm torque and 27.1PS of power.

If you look at the stock FXS and this one, they look worlds apart. However, Fuller says the length of the electric bike is actually the same as the vintage Majestic. That said, the motor was a little too low and the battery pack was mounted a little too high in the stock electric bike. So, Fuller essentially turned the chassis upside down so that the battery pack is low enough to go with the slammed look and the electric motor is aligned with the large 23-inch wheels. Oh, and the wheels are clear polycarbonate for that extra futuristic appeal.

Like the original model, this custom bike also uses a hub-centric steering with a front swingarm. Interestingly, the hub is borrowed from the Bimota Tesi, which was apparently just about the right fit for this bike in terms of dimensions, design and parts. Right now, 3D printing is as futuristic as it gets and the custom house says it has used tons of 3D printed titanium on the most important visual elements of its motorcycle.

    Fuller gills

The bodywork and chassis are all-aluminium. The gills-like structure just in front of the rear wheel neatly utilises the negative space. They also double up as diffusers, enhancing the bike’s aerodynamics. There are subtle blue coloured highlights on key areas which, as per the custom house, are a nod to the original Majestic logo. All in all, the Fuller Moto 2029 looks like the quintessential crossbreed of steampunk intricacy tempered with modern technology.
