The Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 has always been a motorcycle which surfs quite under the radar. Even though it has the ‘hooligan’ of a 390 Duke-based engine, it is wrapped in a subtle yet classy neo-retro design language. This could be one of the reasons why it is underrated. The biggest feedback received was that the bike should’ve had tubeless tyres (either with alloys or with spoke wheels compatible with one). Looks like Bajaj has heard our prayers, as the homologation document hinting at different wheels has surfaced online.

Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 Homologation Document

The document mentions “Compliance Verified For IS:16192(Part-1)-2014 and IS:16192(Part-III)-2018. A quick Google search reveals that the former is a testing standard for alloy wheels whereas the latter is for spoke wheels. Now that Bajaj has already come up with cost-effective spoke wheels with tubeless tyre compatibility, we reckon the brand has designed one for the Husqvarna as well. As for the alloy wheels, it’s obvious that they will come with tubeless tyres.

The current-gen bike has spoke wheels with tubed tyres. While the tyres are pretty impressive, having spoke wheels with a tubed rubber didn’t really make a lot of sense in terms of practicality. The Svartpilen isn’t a true-blue scrambler, so it did not require spoke wheels in the first place. Hopefully, with the upcoming update, the bike should feel a lot more wholesome than before.

As for the launch timeline, considering the homologation documents are already out, expect the launch to happen some time next month. At the moment, the Svartpilen 401 costs Rs 2,97,112 (ex-showroom Delhi). The alloy wheel version might cost around the same whereas the one with the spoke wheels (if it’s tubeless tyre compatible), will command a premium of around Rs 15,000-20,000 over the current price.
