After a blockbuster launch, the Tata Sierra is finally here! And it has something that will make your drives immensely fun and comfortable. However, this feature is only offered with the Adventure+ trim and above. What is this magical feature? Let’s take a look:
Suffice to say, that with seven variants and a good spread of powertrains, the Sierra is all set to appear on every buyer’s radar in the compact SUV segment. That said, if you are reading this story on ZigWheels, chances are you love to drive and want to extract as much fun from the car as possible. A key component to this is the ride quality and suspension feel and you’d be glad to know that Tata has listened to you!

Along with this particular feature, here are some other key feature highlights that the Sierra gets from its Adventure+ variant onwards:
18-inch alloy wheels
60:40 split-folding rear seat
Ambient lighting
10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
Boss mode
Thigh-support extensions
Frequency-selective damping
12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system
12.3-inch passenger entertainment screen (only in Accomplished+)
The feature we are talking about here are the Frequency Dependent Dampers in the new Sierra, offered in Adventure+ and higher variants only, which is a truly high-end piece of technology that is now making its way into mass-market cars.

Having these in your car improves the high-speed manners as well as low-speed ride quality over potholes and undulations as the damping force is adjusted in real-time based on the frequency of vibrations felt, as opposed to conventional dampers which operate at a fixed rate.
If all of that sounded like a bunch of mumbo-jumbo, this is how they work in an easier language. When you are driving over a road, the suspension of your car is working thousands of times per minute to make sure that the car maintains composure and keeps you comfortable inside. While this is the reason you get a flat ride, the 'firmness' of the suspension stays the same, no matter how rough or smooth the road is. With frequency dependent dampers however, the car adjusts how soft or hard the suspension feels, all on its own giving you optimum ride quality over all surfaces!

The Sierra is a nameplate that makes a comeback onto Indian roads after a long stint of more than two decades, and it comes armed to take on incumbent rivals with a retro-inspired design, a spacious and refreshing interior along with a long list of features. It also gets three engines, the two petrols of which are all-new. If you’d like to know more about the Sierra under the hood, check out this story where we have explained all powertrains in detail.

While we await the full price list of the Sierra sometime early next month, Tata has announced that the line-up will start from Rs 11.49 lakh(ex-showroom). It will rival cars like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Victoris, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyrdyer and Honda Elevate.
While seemingly not such an important feature, Frequency Dependent Dampers uplift the ride quality and fun-to-drive aspect of your car immensely. If you are a driving enthusiast, we recommend that you pick the Adventure+ and above variants for the most joy behind the wheel.
