The Basalt will rival the upcoming Tata Curvv.
Soon after revealing the Basalt, Citroen has announced that they will be launching the SUV coupe on August 9. It will be the French carmaker’s first SUV coupe on our shores and will directly take on the Tata Curvv, which is set to be launched on September 2. The car has already been revealed in full and bookings for the Basalt are open at select dealerships ahead of its launch. Here’s a quick overview of the SUV coupe:
The Basalt boasts an SUV coupe body style, thanks to its sloping roofline, which merges neatly with the tailgate. The front design looks familiar to the C3 and C3 Aircross models. It gets a split headlight setup with LED projectors and DRLs, dual-tone alloy wheels and wraparound tail lights. You also get a shark fin antenna on the roof above and a silver skid plate to complete the look.
The Basalt is available in 5 monotone colours and 2 dual tone colours: Polar White, Steel Grey, Platinum Grey, Cosmo Blue, and Garnet Red, Polar White with a grey roof and Garnet Red with a black roof.
In terms of features, it is equipped with a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, wireless phone charging, rear AC vents, steering mounted audio controls, and automatic climate control. It misses out on a sunroof and 360-degree camera.
In terms of safety features, it gets six airbags (standard), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), electronic stability control (ESC), and a rear parking camera with parking sensors.
Under the hood, you get multiple options, including an 82 PS 1.2-litre NA petrol engine and a 110 PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. The NA engine can only be had with a 5-speed manual, while the more potent turbo-petrol engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter. Both these engines are also found in the C3 hatchback.
The Citroen Basalt is expected to be priced from around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). As mentioned above, it will rival the upcoming Tata Curvv. It will also be an alternative to compact SUVs such as the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, and VW Taigun.
