The Ninja 400 has been absent from Kawasaki India’s portfolio because it was yet to receive a BS6-compliant engine. But now, the Japanese marque has finally revealed that it will be launching the 2022 Ninja 400 for the Indian market on 24th June, 2022, at 8pm.
The latest iteration of the Kawasaki supersport comes with cosmetic updates along with a BS6-compliant heart, which is a 399cc, liquid-cooled, parallel twin engine making 45PS and 37Nm. Just like the basic engine architecture, it also carries over the 6-speed gearbox from its predecessor.
The 2022 Kawasaki Ninja 400 gets a new livery of the Kawasaki Racing Team, finished in lime green and ebony. From a design perspective, this bike draws inspiration from its elder siblings. When compared with the Ninja 300, the updated Ninja 400 features a sharper design for the dual LED headlight cluster, fuel tank, fairing and body panels. The LED turn indicators continue to be embedded in the fairing.
Its underpinnings include a 41mm Kayaba sourced fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking duties are shared between a 310 mm petal disc and a 220 mm disc at the front and rear, respectively, equipped with dual channel ABS.
We expect the BS6-compliant Ninja 400 to be priced at Rs 5.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), which is a premium of Rs 26,000 over its predecessor. Once launched, its main rival will be the KTM RC 390, whose updated version is already on sale in India. Other similar, but smaller displacement alternatives include the TVS Apache RR 310 and the upcoming BMW G 310 RR.
