(Update: The Bajaj Freedom 125 has been launched at Rs 95,000 (ex-showroom). Check out the details here.)
Quick News Highlights:
- The Bajaj CNG bike will be launched on July 5, 2024
- Gets a CNG tank along with an auxiliary petrol tank for emergency purposes
- Will be powered by a sloper-like engine with performance expected to be similar to that of a 110cc petrol-powered bike
The Bajaj CNG bike will be launched tomorrow, on July 5, 2024. It will be the first CNG bike to be launched in India and also the world.
The bike has been spotted testing numerous times till now and it could be available in two variants: a regular one and a more rugged version. Both variants get a simple, retro commuter-ish design with a round LED headlight with bulb indicators, braced handlebar, alloy wheels, single-piece alloy grab rail and a long, flat single-piece seat. The rugged variant gets knuckle guards, a rear tyre hugger, a raised handlebar, fork sleeves, and a sump guard. The regular variant gets a flyscreen and a simpler-looking exhaust. Also, the bike gets an upright riding posture with mid-set footpegs and a toe shifter.
The Bajaj CNG bike’s suspension setup consists of a telescopic fork and a monoshock while braking duties are taken care of by a front disc brake and a rear drum brake. It will get a CNG cylinder placed underneath the seat and also an auxiliary petrol tank, to be used when the bike runs out of CNG. This was confirmed when Bajaj teased the bike’s left-hand side switchgear recently, where it had a dedicated switch to toggle between the CNG and petrol tanks. Also, both tanks will get separate filler nozzles as the mechanisms required for both are quite different.

The upcoming CNG bike will get a sloper-like engine and the capacity is expected to be around 125cc with a performance output similar to that of a 110cc petrol-powered commuter bike. This is because CNG is not as power-dense as petrol. However, it will offer a superior mileage output, and along with the cheaper price per kg compared to petrol’s price per litre, the running costs of the CNG bike will be much lower than that of a petrol-powered bike.
Based on recent trademark filings, we think that the CNG bike will be called the ‘Bajaj Fighter’. Also, since Bajaj Auto is known to price its vehicles aggressively, we think it’ll be priced around the Rs 80,000 (ex-showroom) mark. It won’t have any direct competitors but will compete against the likes of the Hero Splendor Plus, TVS Radeon, Honda Shine 100, and Bajaj Platina 110.
