The limited-run DBS 770 Ultimate will be the last time we see those three letters

  • The DBS 770 is the most powerful series production car from Aston Martin.

  • It develops a healthy 770PS/900Nm from the 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12.

  • Aston Martin will be making 300 coupes and 199 volantes.

  • All of them are already accounted for.

There’s something about Aston Martins that makes them so desirable in the ocean of other supercar brands. Some of it is down to the attribute that it is the preferred mode of transportation for the British spy. But most of it is how splendid they look and drive. Aston Martin’s current flagship GT nameplate, the DBS, is being put to rest and the British carmaker has released one heck of a swansong, dubbed the DBS 770 Ultimate.

Why 770 Ultimate? Because it develops a colossal 770PS/900Nm from the dinosaur-fueled, quad-cam, twin-turbo, 5.2-liter V12, making it the most powerful series production car from the brand. Those are serious numbers, handled meticulously by a ZF eight-speed gearbox that transmits it to the rear wheels only. The Ultimate can sprint to 60mph (96kmph) from a standstill in 3.2 seconds and 339kmph top speed is very much doable if you have the courage. An old-school tuner hack of a seven per cent increase in boost pressure and minor tweaks to intake helped Aston Martin achieve these figures.

But the DBS 770 Ultimate is more than a remapped version of the standard DBS. There are other revisions to transform the dynamics of the grand tourer. The steering column gets a new solid mounting which enhances the feel and feedback of the unit. Engineers have also found ways to improve the front lateral stiffness by 25 per cent while also taking up the global torsional stiffness by 3 per cent. The damping system also features enhancements in the form of a recalibration to increase composure without the ride quality taking a hit. After all, the DBS is known for being a luxurious cross-country missile.

Keen eyes would notice the new horseshoe air intake on the hood to keep the powerhouse cool. Other design details are a twill carbon fibre cantrail (Aston Martin for body trim), windscreen surround, mirror caps, a new front splitter, and rear diffuser as well. But, what really stands out ( or rather steal the show) are those exquisite 21-inch wheels that take inspiration from the Valkyrie. Pirelli P Zero is the rubber of choice in 265/35 R21 for the front and 305/30 R21 for the rear.

Differentiation inside the cabin comes in the form of sport plus seats finished in semi-aniline leather and Alcantara featuring a special  ‘fluted’ quilt and perforation pattern as standard. Other highlights include subtle DBS 770 Ultimate branding to remind yourself that you bought a special DBS. It goes without saying that the DBS is one of the most beautiful cars you can buy today! The DBS 770 is no different and looks even more stunning with the visual changes and the gobsmackingly beautiful wheels.

Aston Martin is making 300 Coupes and 199 Volantes (again, Aston Martin for convertible) with production set to commence in Q1 of 2023, with first deliveries expected to begin by Q3 2023. Before you run to check your bank balance, you should know that all of them are accounted for already. Better luck next time.

There might still be faster and louder grand tourers out there, but with the DBS bidding farewell, we are surely going to miss grand tourers that looked like a million dollars. Au Revoir, Aston Martin DBS!
