The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the next big launch from the Korean carmaker in the country. Poised to take position as the carmaker's flagship in India, the Ioniq 5 is a luxury electric hatchback with plenty of quirky and practical features. Bookings for the Ioniq 5 are slated to commence from tomorrow, the day of its unveiling, onwards, and we expect prices to be announced soon after that. So if you had your eyes on this futuristic looking EV, then here are the top 5 things you need to know about it.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is based on the carmaker’s Parametric Pixel design theme. And even though it might be a large hatchback, the boxy aesthetics and silhouette makes it stand out from the rest of the bunch. This author particularly likes the square-like detailing on the headlamps and tail lamps, mimicking a pixel. And to give it the perfect stance, it rolls on large 20-inch alloys.
The Ioniq 5’s cabin takes a minimalist approach with the twin screens (a la Mercedes-Benz cars) that take centrestage. But more than the design, the Ioniq 5’s cabin stands out for its practicality. For starters, you get a glove draw instead of a conventional glove box. The rear seats offer the flexibility of sliding and reclining for additional comfort, while the centre console between the front seats can be slid front and back.

Feature highlights in the Ioniq 5 include dual-zone climate control, augmented reality heads-up display, powered front seats, a large panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, and a wireless phone charger. Passenger safety is taken care of by multiple airbags, electronic stability control, and a whole suite of ADAS features.
The Ioniq 5 is underpinned by Hyundai’s E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) architecture that forms the basis for the EV6 as well. Internationally, it’s offered in Standard and Long Range variants with single and dual motor options for both of them. To keep things simple, we have compiled the detailed specifications in a table below:

It remains to be seen which variant of the car Hyundai will offer in India.
Hyundai could contemplate assembling the Ioniq 5 in India, unlike the EV6, which is brought to India as a CBU import. As a result, it could have a lower starting price than the EV6, which costs from Rs 59.95 lakh. It will lock horns with other similarly priced alternatives such as the Volvo XC40 Recharge, BMW i4, and its cousin, the Kia EV6.
