Protect yourself, look cool and get faster while being safer

Enthusiastic bikers work hard at getting faster, and enthusiastic tourers work hard at getting as many miles under their belt as possible. What if we told you that both could be possible just by choosing the right riding gear to wear?

It's true. Since comfort and peace of mind are two critical aspects of riding a motorcycle well, good riding gear comes as a gift of technology for riders that not only enhances their abilities, but more importantly saves them in case of mishaps. Remember that modern bikes and the emergence of the motorcycle as a leisure tool brings with it the need to for higher levels of personal safety. Here's a list the must-have gear that you must wear at all times when you're on a bike, for a safe ride.

Helmet

It is mandatory by law, but riders are often loathe to adorn the most critical part of any riding gear, that protects the most critical part of the human anatomy. The right helmet is a prerequisite even before you get on the bike the first time, and inseparable after it. We're not being paranoid about crashes, but a good helmet filters out the sound of the wind, makes for clearer vision not impeded by watery eyes, and even protects you from directly inhaling the toxic fumes that litter our environment. Ensure that the helmet comes with an ISI/DOT certification, which means that in case of a crash, it will actually offer life-saving protection and not remain a fancy tool strapped to your head.

Gloves

Again, apart from offering protection to the palms and knuckles in case of a crash, riding gloves have their own non-protection related benefits too. If you ride regularly, you must be aware of sweaty palms and fingers making your hands slip around the controls. Good gloves not only ensure safety, they also increase comfort, endurance and the overall level of control you exercise over the motorcycle.

Jacket

Modern riding jackets have evolved out of a great coming together of anatomical, engineering and material studies, and are the perfect pieces of armour to save the rider in case of a crash. But if you're not into high-performance riding or long distance touring, it is still a good move to wear a full-sleeve denim jacket to save yourself from road rash in case of a crash, and save yourself from exhaustion with the wind hitting your body otherwise.

Boots

The first instinct to break the fall when a motorcycle loses balance is to stick your feet out and support yourself. No wonder that the most common injuries from those 'almost' falls comes in the form of twisted and sprained ankles. The best way to protect yourself from these is a pair of ankle-length boots. We're not recommending race boots for daily commutes, but some sort of ankle support in your riding footwear can save you weeks of hobbling around in pain, so do make it a regular part of your riding.
