The way you treat your new car engine will affect your engine's efficiency, productivity and life in the long run. So it's important that you treat your engine right so that it treats you right. Here is how

The first and the foremost thing is when you start your car, always warm up the engine before rushing anywhere. This will help your engine avoid the extra load

Before you start revving-up your car, let it first complete the initial 2500 kms and your engine is all set to give you a drive

For the first 1000 kms, never let your petrol car’s rpm go above 2500; once this is complete you can go up to 3000 rpm

Change your engine oil after first 1000 kms and the rest can be done when ever you get your car serviced

Maintain an optimum level of coolant as low coolant level will cause the engine to overheat, which may cause serious damage to the engine

Never open the radiator or coolant overflow tank when the engine is hot! The fluid is under pressure when the engine is hot, and might spurt out and burn you. It is advisable that you let the engine cool down and then add a coolant into the tank

Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean with a paper towel or rag. Reinsert the dipstick, being sure to push it in all the way, then pull it out again to check the oil level. It should be somewhere between the hash marks on the dipstick

Avoid over-filling of oil

Add the type and amount of oil as specified in your owner’s manual

By following these simple steps you will be able to have a happy engine and a smiling you.
