Powered by the 1.0-litre K-series motor, the Alto K10 puts out 68PS of max power and 90Nm of peak torque. Available with an option of a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT is only available with the top-spec VXi trim), the Alto K10 returns an ARAI-certified mileage of 24.07kmpl with both the transmission options. It is also available in a CNG manual variant. The Alto K10 offers the same no-frills ownership experience that you'd associate with an Alto in a package that's quite a bit faster than the basic Alto 800. It has its shortcomings, which swell up when parked next to the Kwid. Thankfully, it packs no surprises, and that's its strength. This is a car that's meant to serve its purpose of getting you around town. The compact proportions, good fuel efficiency and the super light steering of the Maruti Alto K10 makes it a perfect city runabout. With the automatic variant, the K10 takes its city-friendly nature a notch higher. In case you need a small hatch for the school or grocery trips on a budget, the Alto K10 should be on your shopping list.

  • Q. Hi All,I am looking for a compact car for myself for family of 3 and planning to buy a CNG option as my running would be on daily basis in city traffic and want it to be economical in terms of fuel expenses.I wanted to know if Alto K10 is better choice than Alto 800 with CNG option and its pros and cons?

    Zigwheels | 5 months ago

We appreciate your choice, Alto K10 and Alto 800 both the cars are amazing in their own sense which is clarified by their performance in the Indian automotive industry. These cars have the title of being India's most sold cars. They are Hatchbacks they can easily zip through the city without facing much of trouble. The Alto K10 LXI optional CNG has been provided with a 1-litre engine and the Alto 800 LXI optional CNG has been powered by the 0.8-litre engine. If these cars are compared on the basis of the economy the Alto K10 CNG optional provides a mileage of 32.26 km/kg whereas the Alto 800 CNG optional provides a mileage of 33.44 km/kg. We would suggest you look over to Maruti Celerio with CNG, another good option will be Maruti Wagon R CNG, Tata Nano CNG and Santro CNG.

You might want to wait for the new alto based on the heart tech platform. More roomy meets newer safety norms and has additional features. But the cost of course might go up.

  • Q. How is the performance and pick up for Auto transmission - Alto K10?
    Zigwheels
    Zigwheels | 11 months ago

The engine is a K10B unit borrowed from the WagonR. A 1 litre, 3 cylinder unit - it generates 68PS of power and 90Nm of torque. No, it doesn’t really sound like a lot - but that is until you factor in the weight of the car. The car doesn’t really weigh a lot, giving it a power-to-weight ratio that matches most B segment hatches. That 90Nm of torque is available at 3500rpm and the peak power is developed only at the redline i.e 6000rpm. What this means is you really have to have a leadfoot to make the K10 run fast. Now, this engine and gearbox combo is available on the bigger Celerio as well. But the gearbox is slightly better tuned on the Alto compared to the Celerio. As with all AMTs, the shifts are jerky - both up and down the gears. The gearbox is slightly hesitant to downshift at times as well, holding on to that higher gear, inadvertently lugging the car in the process. Thankfully, it does snap into its senses in a bit and downshifts. You can always avoid all of this hassle and shift on your own by slotting the gear lever into M. You now pull the lever back to upshift and push the lever forward to downshift. This is the exact opposite of what you might be used to, say, with a DSG box - but you’d adapt to it pretty easily. Even in manual, the vehicle will automatically downshift if it senses it is in too high a gear for the revvs or the speed. But it does let you take the revv needle all the way upto the redline. Speaking of the twisties, the steering is beautifully direct. It is a light unit and doesn’t weigh up much on the highways. While it doesn’t really inspire confidence at 100kph, it is a boon for those quick u-turns and parking is a cakewalk as well.

I think if you driving daily in city traffic then automatic is the best choice for you or if you are driving occasionally means not using daily then you go for manual it was the best option and you'll feel best

Yes it's much better than Alto 800 and others. The power to weight ratio of K10 is much better than it's competitors. Also low center of gravity gives is much stability around the corners.

  • Q. For city running about 5 km a day, which car to buy from Maruti Alto 800 or K 10?
    Ranganathan
    Ranganathan | 4 months ago

I would say buy either the new alto with the safety features, mileage is slightly less but your running of 5kms per day will not make a huge difference unless you count pennies. But my money is still on the K10 with slight more cost but better engine and slightly better build.

You Should buy Alto 800 for better mileage. however if you are willing for good AC i.e. better comfort in economical cost in such case you can buy Alto k10. 799 CC engine does not support AC as 999CC leading to such variance.
