Renault Kiger Expert Review
The Kiger is the top of Renault’s paired down lineup and sits above the Triber and the Kwid. It competes against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai’s Venue, Kia’s Sonet and Citroen’s C3 Aircross 5 seater. It’s was updated in 2022 and this review is based on that variant of the Kiger. It’s hard to stand out in the sub-compact SUV space but Renault have tried to pull it off with the Kiger, promising space, style, and affordability to a country obsessed with SUVs.
There have been more changed made to the package in 2024 and we will update this review once we drive the new car.
Looks
The Kiger, on the top variant, offered an option pack, which added some cosmetic flair. That pack has now been made standard on the RXZ variant. Hence, you get a silver skid plate up front which helps with some contrast, and a chrome strip on the tailgate which makes the Kiger look a bit more classy.
Other than this, new ‘Turbo’ side decals have been added to the turbo variant, and the alloy wheels now get a red hub cap, which looks cool. However, if Renault had gone the extra mile and painted the brake callipers red too, the wheels would have popped even more.
My favourite addition, however, has been in the form of a paint option. The Kiger now gets a Stealth Black paint, which looks really cool. If you like your cars painted black, you will certainly fall for this. Another paint option added to the portfolio is Mustard -- similar to the one seen on the Triber. With it, the Kiger will be available in a total of seven paint options.
Overall, the Kiger has been a good-looking SUV, and this one looks the same. But if you have an eye for detail, this one will look marginally better.
Interiors
For the interiors, all changes are limited to the top RXZ variant and most for the turbo engine only. Both engine options now get a wireless charger as standard which was part of an additional pack earlier. This makes using the wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay a lot more convenient.
What's exclusive to the turbo variant is the addition of cruise control to the features list. Also, the turbo variants have added flair with a fading red accent on the dashboard and red contrast stitching on the steering, gear shifter, armrest and seats. These changes are all in the right direction and improve the experience of the cabin.
All other features remain the same. So the Kiger continues to offer 8-inch infotainment, six speakers, 7-inch digital driver’s display, automatic climate control, ambient lights, and drive modes.
Safety
Kiger has received a 4-star safety rating in the Global NCAP crash test and gets four airbags for occupant protection.
Engines and Performance
We took a spin in the Kiger, trying out its 100PS 1-liter turbo-petrol engine paired with a CVT. The turbo engine feels lively and easy-going right from the get-go. It accelerates smoothly, and you won't find yourself wishing for more power. The CVT is well-matched with the engine, and the typical rubber-band effect often seen with CVTs is minimal here. This means the power delivery is more immediate, making overtakes and quick accelerations a breeze. Plus, this combo works well for both city commutes and highway journeys.
Kiger | Non-turbo | Turbo |
Engine | 1-litre petrol | 1-litre turbo-petrol |
Cylinders | 3 | 3 |
Power | 72PS | 100PS |
Torque | 96Nm | 152Nm |
Gearbox | 5-speed MT / AMT | 5-speed MT / CVT |
Ride and Handling
The Renault Kiger offers a comfy ride, whether you're navigating city streets or cruising on the highways. It handles uneven roads and potholes with ease. You might hear a thud when encountering large potholes, but overall, the well-balanced suspension setup contributes to its impressive ride and handling.
Verdict
All the changes that the 2022 Kiger has undergone, though subtle, are very sensible. You get marginally better looks, don't have to opt for additional packages to get added features in the top variant, and the interior now looks sportier for the turbo variant. And all of this without any significant price hike over the competent family car package it has always been. If you were considering buying the Kiger in 2022, the deal just got sweeter.

A convenient car
The Renault Kiger is a competitive car that is assembling the features of convenience, style, and adaptability which makes it a great choice for the city or the highway rides. Its engine yields maximum power output with the least possible fuel to be used simultaneously, containing a comfortable room for travelers and cargo. It is compact for that charming and funky vibe yet it packs punch in the color options department. The amount of safety features such as anti-lock breaking and airbag, makes it normal for many people drive with this mind on a road.

Average car with price
Driving the Renault Kiger in Chennai and Coimbatore, I found its compact size and agile handling perfect for city streets. With seating for five, it's ideal for small families. The SUV offers impressive mileage, averaging 20 km/litre on highways and 16 km/litre in the city. However, its interior feels basic, lacking some modern features. Safety features like airbags provide reassurance, but the absence of all-wheel drive may disappoint some buyers. Overall, the Kiger is a budget-friendly option with decent fuel efficiency and practicality for urban driving
-
Convenient and Spacious Car
The Renault Kiger stand out with its innovative and best-in-segment 405-liter boot space and rear seats that can be adjusted in different ways. Its high-rise seating ease city driving so much that they're even matched by automatic transmission systems which are easy to use. The star safety record that is supported by GNCAP rating makes driving safe and secure. Lack of TPMS and sunroof would disappoint some buyers, more so is the lack of diesel engine along with some minor issues. Overall, the Kiger is a very handy and safe urban companion.
