The best selling car gets a much needed makeover. Not only is it better looking, it has much-improved interiors and more equipment as well. But, the highlight of the new Alto K10 is the option of the AMT or the automated manual transmission which acts as an automatic and should be a great buy for...
The new Alto K10 is the latest update that Maruti has done on their extremely successful Alto range. While the original Alto K10 was launched in 2010, this new one comes with updates both to the exterior and of course, to the interior. While the Alto 800 was an all-new car, its larger sibling the Alto K10 has essentially stayed mechanically identical to the one it replaces.
The new Alto K10 sports a completely new look as compared to the car that it has replaced. The Alto K10 now shares the doors and the roof with the Alto 800. That said, the bonnet, the front fenders, the tail gate and even the bumpers are unique to the K10. The Alto K10 also has large headlamps, a more aggressive air ram design and larger 13 inch wheels which have been carried from the last generation car. The Alto K10 still carries the Alto look that we have become so used to over the last years. On the higher variants, the Alto also gets body colored rear view mirrors and an attractive side molding. The Alto K10 also gets whole hosts of accessories that one can opt for from the Maruti Genuine Parts catalogue.
The Alto K10 also gets a new dashboard, which comes with a dual tone finish. The centre console comes finished in a shade of gloss black while the steering, audio controls, door handles and the armrest come finished in silver and give it a much richer feel. That said, the Alto K10’s plastics could definitely be improved. The Alto K10 is a small car and of course, there isn’t much space. The car is best used as a four seater and is certainly not a place suited for taller individuals.
The Alto K10 gets the three cylinder K10 1.0-litre engine that also does duty in the Wagon R and the Celerio. The all-aluminum engine loves to be revved and is quite potent. The engine is now lighter, there's less friction and it is mated to a new 5-speed gearbox. Maruti claims a significant improvement in fuel efficiency. The K10 has an ARAI specified fuel mileage of a 24.07kmpl. The Alto K10 is priced under Rs 4 lakhs.
The Alto K10 goes up against competition like the Datsun Go, the Hyundai Eon and the Renault Kwid. The Alto K10 is available in both petrol and CNG versions with a new AMT transmission also on offer. The Alto K10 automatic is currently India’s cheapest automatic car. In terms of future specifications, the Alto K10 is also expected to get the new 2-cylinder diesel engine that currently does duty in the Celerio. Read MoreRead Less
