About Mahindra Thar 2015-2019

Thar is the offering from the house of India’s leading utility maker, Mahindra and Mahindra. True to its off-roading DNA, Thar appeals more to the conquerors than typical city drivers. . Mahindra has updated the styling of Thar in its recent facelift and the overall demeanour of this off- roader feels more contemporary now. Interiors have gone under a drastic transformation which adds to the overall appeal of the Thar. There are two engine options under the hood - a 2.5-liter DI diesel engine and a 2.5-liter CRDe putting out 64 PS / 183 Nm and 106 PS / 247 Nm respectively. In addition to 5-speed manual transmission, Mahindra Thar also features differential lock with low and high gear ratios for true off-roading. Priced in the range of Rs 6.39-8.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Mahindra Thar rivals Force Gurkha, Maruti Gypsy, and its own cousin Bolero among others.

Mahindra Thar 2015-2019 Overview

The new-gen 2020 Mahindra Thar has been revealed in the country.

Mahindra has launched a special edition of the Thar called the Thar 700. The Thar 700 celebrates Mahindra’s 70th anniversary and will be the last edition before it says goodbye. Limited to 700 units, the Thar 700 gets cosmetic updates inside out to ensure that it stands apart from the current-gen SUV. It gets new alloy wheels and a new exterior shade called ‘Aquamarine’ from the Marazzo. Apart from the Aquamarine shade, the Thar 700 can be picked in the 'Napoli Black' paint scheme. The Thar 700 also has a silver finish in the centre portion of the bumper for a contrasting effect. There is a ‘Thar 700’ badge on the front fenders bearing Anand Mahindra’s signature in it. On the inside, the Thar 700 gets black leatherette seat covers. The special edition Thar is priced at a premium of Rs 39,000 over the standard SUV, which retails at Rs 9.60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

  • A big no to Thar as it is the most uncomfortable vehicle on this planet. Too too bumpy. Hope they make some improvements in the upcoming model. It is good if u r a full time off roader and don’t mind the thumps. XUV is a middle of the path vehicle. Very low on driving pleasure. The jeep stands out here if they have removed the early flaws. For serious off roading you have to go for Trailhawk as the GC of regular Compass is a disappointment. If you are full time off roader you can also consider Force Gurkha. It wasn’t good earlier but the Gurkha Extreme makes good sense. It has Mercedes genes ( G -Wagen )

  • The mighty Thar comes only with Diesel.It is available in 3 types DI 2WD,DI 4WD and CRDe. All of them comes with Diesel only.New THAR CRDe comes with 2.5 Litre Diesel engine mated to 5 speed manual transmission which delivers a power of 105 BHP & 247 Nm of Torque.

Q. I am interested to buy Thar. Is it comfortable for long trip? what about the speed on highway with safe mode?
  • The front two passengers will be comfortable. If you have rear passengers, would not suggest a long ride, as long as rear passengers are ok being uncomfortable.Appies to stock versions, modifications you can do it anyhow you require.
  • It's the best for long drive if you have rear front facing seats else I am sure rear passengers will become your enemies. But in terms of driving on highway it will surely make you feel king of roads. With stock tyres you can claim 14kmpl if driven 90kmph. I have achieved a top speed of 160kmph but after the wider tyres of 32 inches now max speed is 130

Q. Which model of Thar is value for money?
  • Close your eyes and go for crde 4x4. I have been driving thar for last 3 months and its been my primary vehicle. In city or highway or off road its the best. It carries the older scorpio engine and its refined and with customization from T8 or code 6 you can achieve upto 160 hp. After owning Honda city, figo 2015, endeavor 2017 and now thar. I say it's the best if you want to enjoy raw Power and the tough vehicle just go for thar. The attention that thar grabs no other vehicle grabs.

  • Go for crde 4x4 and get the hard top by prad 4x4 and you will enjoy driving thar, If possible wait for new version which will come with bs 6 engine and bit more safety features

    Mahindra Thar, the one what I have is the initially launched one in 2014, BS 3 complaint one. As we use it a Coorg its a beast made for the roads and off road capabilities there. Maintenance is nothing much. Proper riding, proper fuel,oil and air to be maintained and it will run well with no much issues. Haven't used 4/4 till now, but till now we never regretted that we bought this vehicle. Absolute Gem on road to drive. Thanks Mahindra.

    No problem vehicle 9 years 178k In Odometer 3 sets of tyres, 8 wiper blades, 3 sets of brake shoes, 2 UNiversal joints, One soft top. One headlamp bulb.Had to change the brake system as the launch vehicle brakes were really worst. Rest all touchwood.

    Strictly a second car, one cannot live with a Thar as a primary vehicle.Man's seeks pleasure in the weirdest of things, absolutely fallen for the looks , the stock off-road capability (modified even better) . Very useful if you own a farm/ranch.

    You love it and hate it at the same time. Hate it coz mahindra service is rubbish. Their equipment are always broken. The body work is rubbish. But the thar gives you more pleasure then your wife. After you drive this other cars feel like small toy cars.. I love my thar not mahindra.
