The 2020 Honda City is more of an evolution rather than a revolution. Honda has played it safe by ironing out the older car’s shortcomings and making it an overall complete product. It still rides on an identical 2600mm wheelbase, but the new City is longer and wider, courtesy a heavily revised platform. The new City’s design looks premium with elements borrowed from the Accord and Civic. Even the interior is more European with a cleaner and simpler design which we really like. Honda has also loaded the new City decently. New additions include Honda’s LaneWatch Camera (part of blindspot monitoring wherein a camera is placed on the left side outside rearview mirror), a semi-digital instrument cluster with a 7-inch screen, connected car technology with Alexa remote capability, and a tyre pressure monitor. Carryover features include touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control, cruise control, a sunroof, keyless entry with push-button start and auto headlamps. Safety features on offer are six airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors with a rearview camera and electronic stability control. The new Honda City’s petrol engine has 2PS more power but the torque figure remains unchanged. It also gets a new 6-speed manual over the 5-speed manual transmission offered in the fourth-gen City. The new petrol engine also claims an extra 0.4kmpl of mileage. Both fourth-gen and new-gen City petrol engines get the option of a 7-step CVT automatic with paddle shifters, but the new one has an improved unit.Read more -2020 Honda City Goes On Sale Alongside Its Predecessor.-2020 Honda City Launch Tomorrow: 5 Things You Should Know.
All three cars are good from different segments. Honda City 4th Generation is a sedan whereas, Honda Jazz and Tata Altroz are a hatchback. Honda didn't drastically change the City’s formula. It looks better than its predecessor and retains its core strength with acres of space and a smooth, fun-to-drive petrol engine. On the other hand, While the Altroz does not manage to set a new standard in the segment, it will fit right into the mix with a long feature list, sharp looks and a comfortable ride. The engine refinement remains to be the major chink in the armour. Whereas, If you are looking for a spacious and comfortable car for your family and want a refined engine and smooth drive quality, you may go for Honda Jazz. The Honda City 4th Generation is still a good option for those looking for a spacious and well-equipped car with a fun-to-drive petrol engine. Prices for the fourth-gen Honda City have been reduced by up to Rs 66,000. The top-spec VX and ZX trims as well as the CVT variants have been discontinued from the lineup. That means you miss out on niceties like a sunroof, automatic headlamps, automatic wipers as well as side and curtain airbags. However, the new top-spec V variant packs essentials such as climate control, a touchscreen infotainment system, keyless entry with push-button start, dual airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors. Selecting between the Hyundai i20 and Honda City 4th Gen would depend on certain factors such as your budget, preference of the segment, features required, cabin space, usability, etc. The new Hyundai i20 doesn’t just offer loads of new tech, it also works better as a family car than before, albiet for a bit of a price increase. The fourth-gen Honda City is only offered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that develops 119PS of power and 145Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox is the only transmission choice on offer with the CVT being discontinued. Previously, it was sold with a 1.5-litre iDTEC diesel engine as well. On the other hand, the 2020 City comes with a 100PS/200Nm 1.5-litre diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. This engine is still fairly easy to use as far as diesels go, in the sense that it’s not one that delivers a sudden or violent turbo surge. Tractability is still decent and given that it’s got good torque low down, it’s an engine that’ll keep up with traffic and manage overtakes without necessarily needing a downshift. Yes, From switching to renewable and reusable materials to cleaner means of transport, switching to an electric vehicle for next-to-zero emissions seems like a good idea too. Converting to electric mobility is about more than buying an EV. New EVs like the MG electric SUV will not take away the fun of driving either. An electric powertrain offers immediate throttle response and the surge of undelayed torque makes it easier to overtake other vehicles on the road. EVs also offer a more serene experience as the electric powertrain is virtually silent, especially when compared to the distinct clatter of a diesel-powered car. Currently, long-range EVs carry a slightly premium price tag, but the government is already offering various benefits to make them more affordable. These would also offer savings in terms of energy costs as electricity is a lot less expensive than fossil fuels like petrol and diesel. For the early adopters, new EV offerings will be feature-loaded with extensive warranties for a wholesome ownership experience.
