Q. What is ABS in bikes?

I would like explain this a little more in-depth. I have been searching for a detailed answer on this for a long while.What is an ABS?An Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) works to prevent a motorcycle's wheels, from locking during braking (Panic braking to be more specific!!). This is achieved with the help of an extra set of circuitry involving wheel speed/rpm sensors attached to your motorcycle wheels and a dedicated ECU for ABS which processes these inputs to detect wheel lockups. ABS includes 4 major components: the sensor array, the control unit, the pump and the valves which physically regulate the braking force.(One reason companies provide ABS as optional/premium feature in India is this extra cost involved.!)One can easily see the wheel speed sensors on ABS equipped motorcycles.In this image the thin wire from the brakes goes to the ABS unit. Also notice the encoders (slotted rings) fitted on the wheel to detect wheel rotations.There are two types ABS you might hear about:a) Single Channel ABS: The ABS sensors would be present only on one of the brakes. Most cases its attached to the front brakes as they are having higher stopping power and most likely used in panic braking.b) Dual Channel ABS: The ABS sensors would be present on both front and rear brakes. More safe compared to Single channel variants.NOTE: There is something called CBS (Combined Braking System), and this is completely different from ABS. The main difference being in CBS distributes the braking efforts in a ratio across the front and rear brakes. The ratio is set by the manufacturer depending on the Capacity of the engine and the perceived optimal front/rear brake balance (Achieved through proportional control Valve). CBS can be seen in Honda motorcycles like the Hornets and CBRs in India.

Anti-lock Braking System aka ABS - In normal disc brakes, when used wheels get locked if brakes are applied at full and bikes skid. ABS is a is a safety anti-skid braking system which uses wheel speed sensors to identify if one or more wheels are trying to lock up during braking. If a wheel tries to lock up, a series of hydraulic valves limit or reduce the braking on that wheel. This prevents skidding and allows you to maintain handle control. When only front wheel has ABS its called Single channel ABS when both wheels have ABS its called Dual Channel ABS. It will be mandatory for 2 wheelers supplied from April 2019 to have Dual Channel ABS.

Anti lock braking sysytem! It doesnot have ABS ! Some time when u press the front brake the front wheel lock and it make the tyre to to skid n u can skidd if i were in a high speed! I experience it so many time
