Vespa SXL 125 Expert Review
The Vespa SXL 125 is a premium, retro-themed scooter. It carries the brand’s iconic design language and shows off a classic Italian look with a modern touch to it. Let's find out more about this retro scooter:
Design
The Vespa SXL 125 is an absolute eye candy with its retro-modern design inspired by the Vespas of the past. It comes with a rectangular LED headlight and rear view mirrors, with chrome highlights all over. The sportier Racing Sixties version comes with a paint job inspired by the 1960s racing era, featuring a pinstripe and a windscreen.
Engine, Mileage and Performance
The Vespa SXL is powered by a 124.45cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine which produces a total output of 9.77PS at 7400 rpm and 10.11Nm at 5600 rpm. It comes mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The 3-valve SOHC (Single OverHead Camshaft) engine ensures a good balance of performance and cost-effectiveness compared to a 2-valve engine. The SXL 125 has a generous 7.4-litre fuel tank and offers a real-world tested mileage of 47.75kmpl.
Handling and Ride Quality
The Vespa SXL 125 should provide nimble and responsive handling, thanks to its steel monocoque chassis. Its ‘aircraft derived’ front suspension is designed to decrease dive at the front while hard braking as compared to a regular telescopic fork. It is easily accessible to shorter riders, thanks to its 770mm seat height.
Comfort
The Vespa SXL 125 should be pretty comfortable to ride as it comes with a well-padded single-piece seat and offers a relaxed posture. The grab rail at the back might not look fancy, but it works well for the passenger to hold on securely.
Features
The Vespa SXL 125 is equipped with an LED headlight with daytime running lights. The rectangular headlight and rear view mirrors add to the scooter’s neo-retro looks. The Vespa SXL 125 offers a semi-digital instrument cluster that displays the speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, time and essential tell-tale lights.
The SXL 125 gets an underseat storage lamp and a USB charging port. However, it doesn't have smartphone connectivity, a feature that is now standard on every other 125cc scooter. The Racing Sixties variant flaunts a 1960s-inspired paint job and an additional windscreen, complementing the overall looks.
Should you buy the Vespa SXL 125?
If you want to buy a premium 125cc scooter with a unique retro-modern look, the Vespa SXL 125 is a good option. For those who want more power and performance, the bigger engined Vespa SXL 150 can be considered.

The SXL 125 is powered by a 3 valve engine which churns out 9.92 PS of power and 9.60 Nm of torque. Its performance is pretty decent for city. Riding it on crowded delhi streets is a breeze thanks to its responsive acceleration. The suspension setup tends more towards the firmer side making longer rides a bit uncomfortable especially on the bumpy roads common in Indian cities.
