Q. Is the low ground clearance of Triumph Speedmaster really gonna be an issue in indian conditions..potholes and speed bumps.
  • I suggest to keep avenger 220 has 170mm ground clearance which scrapes some speed breakers in bengaluru, mysuru of karnataka with single rider, with a pillion it scrapes many speed breakers and potholes, even if you are on first gear. Now the all cruisers and street bikes of triumph have 130mm (3cm less than avenger), imagine the situation now. T bobber has 140mm and only adventure tourers have 200mm+ ground clearance but seat height is for guys who are 6ft or wear shoes with 5 inch heels. Bajaj Avenger is the only bike in india with no.1 ground clearance to seat height(737mm) ratio. So a 5.2 to 5.10ft guy can enjoy a bajaj avenger without hitting every speed breaker. same guy will scrape every speed breaker with any triumph except an adventure bike on which he will be too short to sit.Interestingly if they add 30mm more ground clearance to T bobber, it matches the exact seat height and ground clearance of bajaj avenger. I am waiting from 11 years to upgrade my bajaj avenger 220 bike, but I am too spoiled by that ground clearance to seat height ratio with that sofa like feeling which no bike of 10x the cost is offering. Kawasaki vulcan is a very close call but with 130mm ground clearance and a pillion rider, I had to stop the bike to cross a speed breakers. It seems no bike company designer or research team actually visits the place where they want to market the bike. They just sell the same stuff what they sell in other countries to india. morons.
  • Yes, not so much in states like haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Delhi, but definitely in Maharashtra... A similar question was doing rounds by a rider from Karnataka, so it seems its problematic in Karnataka as well....but you can get a certain amount of respite by fitting fork risers at both the ends, it raises the ground clearance by as much as 2 inches....
Q. Is it difficult to use on roads with humps? In KA, even highways having several speed humps. Is the bike engine reliable on long journeys where immediate assistance is not available? Is the tyre puncture easily serviceable by a roadside local tyre puncture guy? Rear wheel is easy to replace since there is no centre stand - Speedmaster?
  • It is indeed difficult on the roads with humps, nevertheless, you can get risers fitted at both then ends and get a bit of respite... another thing would be to not take the humps head on, instead cross them diagonally, and at a dead slow speed.... That' the cross you have to bear.....
Q. Hi friends,, really need your advice in regards to two bikes of triumph 1) tiger and 2) speed Master. I am traveller not a biker still. yes i have done many miles on the RE 1998 350. but now i am really confused on two product. should i take a cruiser or a adventure bike... i would be doing highway and sometime offload... leh is on the target but then once a year max... friends can u suggest should i go for cruiser or adventure... that is tiger or speedmaster...
  • Firstly thanks for a quick response. Secondly I tried both the wheels .. speedmaster being and low rider I just have a doubt for Indian conditions. Secondly while driving speedmaster for long duration I found that it tends to get boring as the it's manily for highway drive and with excess luggage it tends to go more low... Where as I drove tiger I found it more comfortable on highway as well bit of offload with bagged it was more confident. Still wise have a practical bike for Indian conditions what do u suggest as per that....
  • Rightly said, it's only meant for highways.... but the beach handlebar is far more comfortable than the handlebar of tiger 850 sport, haven't got my hands on tiger 900 as yet so cannot comment on that.. If its same as 850, my suggestion would be to get handlebar risers fitted on your tiger for better and even comfortable rides.
