Q. Is it worth the money and satisfaction - Classic 500?
  • The Classic 500 is the best single-cylinder bike Royal Enfield has ever made. Its been a long time since it has stepped and still it has its forte and looks beautiful. The original classic Bullet design is kept intact with few alteration which make it look outstanding. Power comes from a 499cc, four stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, twin-spark, engine which churns out 27.57PS of max. power and 41.3Nm of peak torque. Its tested mileage is 38.88kmpl in town and 46.48kmpl on the highways which is quite impresive for this huge engine. It comes in 7 variants which are STD, Squadron Blue, Stealth Black, Battle Green, Desert Storm, Chrome. It comes in the price range of 1.70 - 2.17 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Classic 500 is at the top of the range in this regard it is one of the most comfortable motorcycles to ride in today’s times, but its basic chassis isn’t too modern – it has got a basic single down-tube frame under the skin with 35mm hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and gas charged 5-step adjustable hydraulic coil springs at the rear. The overall ride quality is a bit firm when you compare it to that of its other stable mates. It feels slightly heavier and stiffer because its suspension has been tuned for adjusting it to the additional weight of the engine. If we talk about braking, it has got 280mm disc brake at front and a 153mm drum brake, and it might be a point for disappointing that being a heavy bike it should have disk brake a rear also. Q. What is the average maintenance cost. Is it very high? Does it vibrate a lot even below 100 km - Classic 500?
  • Avarage maintainance is like 1500 to 2000. To me it is a bullet and it should vibrate, but your driving style like gradual accilaration and decilaration. Without straining the engine u will feel less vibrations. The sweet spot is cruzing at 80 90 where u feel like u r sitting on a sofa. It vibrates both below and above this speed. The vibrations go out of control when u go beyond 110. About the minalge u get 30kmpl +/ - 5. And if u are lucky u can squeeze 40kmpl out of it. In my case i have got 18kmpl and even 48kmpl. It depends upon the riding. : By Kiran | 5 months ago
  • Average maintenance cost is approx 1500/- per service including oil change. But if you want to use it for daily commuting purpose, then you should factor in the fuel economy which is around 25-27 kmpl. Vibrations will be there even at low revs. I am facing major problems in the rear brakes as in my bike it's a drum set up but in the current models they are providing disc brakes in the rear wheel with ABS. : By Deepesh | 7 months ago
  • It vibrates quite a lot but improves with proper run-in. Carberry makes a crank shaft bearing plate that helps reduce vibration also. Search for "Carberry Vibration Reduction Plate - Hitchcocks Motorcycles" There are two crank bearings on the left and 1 on the right side as stock in the 500. The plate adds an additional bearing to the right side. : By Timothy | 6 months ago
