Honda Shine Expert Review

The Honda Shine 125 is the best-selling 125cc bike in India. Over the years, it got several small but crucial updates to stay relevant. The bike is well-known for its smooth engine, great mileage and reliable quality.

Design

The Honda Shine 125 has remained more or less the same over the years. However, it is not necessarily a bad thing as the Shine’s target audience love the way the bike looks. The design is neutral, with premium finishes in the form of chrome garnishing on the headlight cowl, neat, sporty-looking stickers, blacked-out underpinnings and a contrasting chromed-out exhaust heat shield.

Engine, Mileage & Performance

The Honda Shine is powered by a BS6.2-compliant 123.94cc single-cylinder fuel-injected engine that churns out 10.74PS at 7500rpm and 11Nm at 6000rpm. Honda has implemented several friction reduction technologies in the engine to enhance its performance and efficiency. It comes with a 5-speed transmission, which should ensure better highway performance as opposed to a 4-speed gearbox. The engine also comes with a silent starter for convenient starts.

Handling & Ride Quality

Armed with a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers along with large 18-inch wheels with tubeless tyres at both ends, the Honda Shine 125 does a good job of absorbing bumps in city roads. Since the tyres are tubeless, they can handle punctures much better than tubed ones which tend to deflate quickly. There’s adequate braking power too, thanks to the 240mm front disc and a 130mm rear drum with Combined Braking System (CBS). If you’re more budget conscious, then there’s the option of a front 130mm drum too. However, we’d recommend the disc variant as it’s much safer compared to the one with the front drum brake. The 162mm ground clearance is also good enough for tackling bad roads.

Comfort

The Honda Shine 125 is a purposeful commuter, and hence comes with an upright riding posture with easy-to-reach handlebars. It gets a well-cushioned 651mm long seat. The seat height is also reasonably accessible at 791mm. There’s a body-coloured grab rail to keep the pillion secured.

Features

Honda has equipped the Shine 125 with an engine kill switch, DC halogen headlight, bulb indicators and tail light. The instrument cluster is fully analogue with just a speedometer, fuel gauge, odometer, and tell-tale lights. Honda should’ve given the bike a semi-digital instrument cluster. Other noteable features include a side stand engine cut-off feature, and a silent starter for convenient, noiseless starts.

Should you buy the Honda Shine 125?

The Honda Shine 125 is perfect for those who want a no-nonsense 125cc commuter that’s refined, reliable, offers good mileage and can perform everyday commuting with ease. We’d recommend the disc variant as it offers better braking performance than the drum version.

  • Honda Shine Reliable Commuter

My reliable touring mate is the Honda Shine. I love my bike because of its useful features and habitual best experience. Because of its strong construction and smooth machine, riding it on both city and country rows feels actually accessible. For a hassle- free ride, whether it's a quick trip to the request and a diurnal commute to work, the easy commands and energy frugality are features. Its minimum conservation charges and life make it a detectable option for regular operation, which I enjoy. My love for my bike only deepens because of its straightforward yet ultrapractical looks. The Honda Shine is a reliable trip chum in extension to being a great ride.

  • making rides hassle-free

Honda is known for its reliable service network and low maintenance costs. That's why I love this bike. The Shine is known for its excellent fuel efficiency, delivering over 60 kmpl in ideal conditions. The engine is smooth and refined, offering a good balance between power and mileage. While sufficient for city rides, the Shine might feel underpowered for highway. The Shine competes in a crowded 125cc segment. You might find other bikes offering more power for same segments.

  • it always shine

Owning a Honda Shine has been a practical decision for my daily commutes and occasional long rides. Its 124cc engine with 10.59 bhp power has been a reliable companion makes every ride smooth. The fuel efficiency stands at about 65 kmpl which is stellar ensuring that my visits to the fuel station are infrequent.Yet it is not without its faults. The bike's weight distribution feels a bit off to me specially at lower speeds which affects maneuverability in tight spots. Additionally the stock seat could do with more cushioning for better comfort on longer rides.

  • Honda Shine: A Smooth Sailer on Bumpy Roads

Two years with my Honda Shine and I still find excuses to take it out for rides. Its 124 cc engine, delivering a smooth 10.59 HP perfectly complements the city's hustle and the freedom of open highways. The Shine's 5 speed transmission is a extremely great and it offering a comfortable and fuel efficient ride with about 65 kmpl on average. The bike handles beautifully showing resilience on rough terrains thanks to its suspension setup. The Shine's design while functional feels a bit dated compared to the sleek, modern aesthetics some of its rivals.

Q. What is the fuel tank capacity of Honda Shine?
  • The fuel tank capacity of Honda Shine is 10.5 Liters.
Q. What are the finance details?
  • If you are planning to buy a new bike on finance, then generally, 10 to 30 percent down payment is required on the on-road price of a bike. However, exact confirmation regarding EMI, down payment, interest, loan period, and its procedure will be discussed by the bank only, as it depends upon individual eligibility. We would suggest you to get in touch with the nearest dealership to get exact information. Click on the below-given link and select your desired city to get your nearest dealership details.
Q. Shine 125 or Pulsar 125 or Raider 125 which is the best?
  • Honda Shine comes with better fuel efficiency and a refined engine. The BS6 Shine gets an ACG starter motor, which offers extremely silent, almost noiseless starts and a start/stop switch. Powering the Honda is a 125cc fuel-injected motor that makes 10.7PS of power and 11Nm of torque mated to a new 5-speed transmission. However, The Pulsar 125 does make a lot of sense for a novice rider looking for a motorcycle with a bit of oomph without having to forego one’s entire life savings. It is the most affordable Pulsar on sale right now. And TVS has gone the smarter route, keeping a thrilling ride experience as the USP, instead of a purely commuter-centric approach. Nevertheless, the TVS Raider seems like a solid product and a worthy (and stylish) alternative to the umpteenth Honda Shine. Moreover, we would suggest you take a test ride before making the final decision. Follow the link and select your desired city for dealership details.
