Beetle is easily the most recognisable Volkswagen. It has survived the test of time and has carved a niche for itself. But the time has come for Volkswagen to pull the plug. However, before doing that, VW has given Beetle a final touch-up to remind us a little of the roots. While the looks are the pretty much the same, it comes in two new paint schemes which will definitely invoke some nostalgia. Even the wheels have been designed to let you revisit the older days. Come July, Volkswagen will bid adieu to this icon but its charm will never fade away.
Japanese cars rank high on reliability and value for money factor. High sales figures for Nissan Maxima in the US reinforce that notion. But to stay abreast with the changing times, Nissan thought of giving this sedan a comsetic treatment. Nissan Maxima now gets a more pronounced front grille ( Nissan calls it the V-motion grille). There are full LED headlamps with DRLs, tail lamps have a new lensing and a few more touches here and there complete this facelift. Nissan has equipped Maxima with a host of safety gadgets but sadly this sedan may never make it to the Indian markets.
The world needs cleaner commutation. And not just cleaner, but also smarter. Hyundai has approached Nexo with this very philosophy. In essence, Hyundai Nexo is an EV, but it is powered by Hydrogen fuel cells. Here's how it works- Nexo is powered by electric motors, but these electric motors get power from Hydrogen cells that use hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity. By-product is simple water vapours. Isn't that smart? Now, Nexo doesn't look like a quirky EV but gives the impression of a proper crossover. It uses Hyundai's fluidic design language to create a smart-looking vehicle with sharp, narrow headlamps and unique grille. On the inside there's tech galore. Numerous control switches and wide screen dominates the inside of the cabin. What needs to be seen is how practical this technology in real life scenarios.
It came, it saw and it conquered. That sounds true for Jeep Compass, at least with respect to Indian market. And to make things even more interesting, this time it gets a trail-rated badge. We are talking about the Jeep Compass Trailhawk- a certified off-roader. Jeep has made enough changes to it to make it take over those uncharted terrains. Compass now has a raised ground clearance of around 190mm, redesigned front and rear bumper to improve approach and departure angles and it also has skid plates to protect the underbody. Powering this SUV is still a 2.0L diesel engine but is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. And there's obviously an active all-wheel drive system.
A jaguar that is powered by 550 horses and runs on a V8 simply demands your attention. F-Type is a testament that Jaguar knows how to set the hearts racing. And it takes all that a notch ahead with the F Type R, that we saw at the LA Auto Show. It now gets LED headlamps and the wide front grille reminds you of those good 'ol Jags that are still loved by many. Under the hood is a 5.0L supercharged V8 that now has amplified roars, thanks to the new quad exhaust pipes.
