Tata has finally launched its much-awaited SUV, the Harrier At Rs 12.69 lakh, ex-showroom Mumbai. It is offered in four variants, all powered by the same 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine that also powers the Jeep Compass. The Harrier's engine is de-tuned though and produces just 140PS/350Nm as compared to the Compass' 173PS/380Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox that drives the front wheels. Tata may offer an automatic transmission sometime later, Tata also has no plans of launching an AWD variant of the Harrier anytime soon. The Harrier is significantly larger than its rivals. Inside, the cabin is quite premium and plush, though many of the features like a soft-touch dashboard and the 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment screen are limited to the top variants. The Harrier will be offered with dual airbags and ABS as standard across the range but the top-spec XZ variant gets six airbags, ESP and an ESP based terrain response system that helps the Harrier navigate the rougher sections.
The deliveries of the Tata Harrier begin today. The keys to one of the first SUVs were handed over to its lucky customer at the launch event!
