Tata Motors has announced that the Tigor compact sedan would be launched on the 29th of March. The company has revealed some of the features and specifications of the Tigor and, on paper, it looks like the homegrown manufacturer has a winner on their hands. Let’s take a look at some of the standout features of the Tata Tigor:

The headlamp graphics has been slightly tweaked for the Tigor

The Tata Tigor is based on the XO platform that also underpins the brilliant Tiago hatchback. The Tigor measures 3,992 mm in length, 1,677 mm in width and 1,537mm in height. The wheelbase of 2,450 mm should ensure that the Tigor comes with a spacious cabin. The ground clearance of 170 mm and a boot space of 419 litres are other highlights of the Tigor.
The rear is undoubtedly the showstopper, the fastback design (Tata likes to called it a Styleback) sets it apart from other compact sedans with their stubby boots. The spoiler on the rear window looks great and..

..also houses the high-mount stop lamp which look like the one seen on the Audi A7/S7. The thick chrome bar on the tailgate looks neat and doesn't look out of place like on other cars.

The Tigor will be powered by the same set of engines as the Tiago: a 1.2-litre Revotron three-cylinder petrol engine that develops 85 PS and 114 Nm and a 1.05-litre Revotorq three-cy;omder diesel engine that puts out 70 PS and 140 Nm. Initially, both engine will be available with the 5-speed manual transmission, but an AMT is also on the cards.
This diamond-cut alloy wheel design is different from the one seen on the Tiago. They look much better, don't they?

Other features include automatic climate control, ConnectNext touchscreen infotainment system, four speaker along with four tweeters, a multi-function steering wheel, dual front airbags, ABS and EBD.
The interior has remained unchanged from the Tiago hatchback and looks like its from a class above, honestly!

The speedometer too is the same and as on the Tiago, the Tigor too doesn't have redline markings on the tachometer.

The ConnectNext infotainment system is one of the easiest system I have used in a long while. The only grouse is the smaller, monochromatic screen compared to the competition which offers larger touchscreens.

The automatic climate control was very quick to cool the cabin on the Tiago, so expect it perform similarly on the Tigor as well.

The Tigor will compete with the Ford Figo Aspire, Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Xcent. Prices of the Tigor will be revealed only at the time of launch but expect it to be priced very competitively and probably even lower than its competition making it the most affordable compact sedan in the country.

NikilSJ So after all the wait, it turns up that the Tigor is essentially just an added boot on the Tiago.
Even though the Tiago has decent power for the car, the Tigor is partially heavier than the Tiago. A little more power would have helped. It was earlier rumored that the Tigor would be coming with the same engines but with more power, but now the power is also the same as the Tiago.
I don't think Tata can pull it off, unless they give a very small price difference between the Tiago.
Compact sedans were a high selling segment, but it has been losing market slowly. The Xcent, Aspire were not great sellers, exception being the Ameo and Dzire. However, the Ameo has its own engine and transmission combination which is not available on the Polo and the Dzire is a taxi favourite.
I believe the Tigor is going to be the new national taxi, if priced well. The drivers would be able to put it in the sedan category, even though its a hatchback.

The pricing seems to be right between Tiago and Tigor. However, I was expecting a lesser price difference between the two. There is a 70k price difference in the petrol variants and 90k+ price difference in the diesel variants.
However, with the styling of the Tigor, I guess it may still get a lot of interest, along with the longer wheelbase and boot space.
The pricing has been done taking into consideration, the Zest and the Tiago pricing. As the Zest diesel is priced considerably higher, Tigor could be priced 20k more however, in the case of the petrol variants they need to keep the margin lower so that it does not cannibalize the already slow selling Zest.
