Honda's litre class race machine, the CBR 1000RR needed an update after being a bit too long in the tooth when compared to the current crop of superbikes. Us enthusiasts were aching to see the updated version. After a couple of teasers, Honda has finally answered our prayers by unveiling the new 2017 Honda CBR 1000RR at this year's INTERMOT motorcycle show. The new bike gets much needed electronic aids like cornering ABS, five-axis inertial measurement unit, 'Ride by Wire' with three riding modes, traction control system with multiple levels, and rear lift control, which prevents the rear wheel from lifting up when braking hard. It also gets a quickshifter and an auto-blipper to make faster gear changes without using the clutch. The underbelly exhaust is replaced with a traditional canister unit, for complying with the Euro 4 norms. The headlamps get LED treatment and frankly, it looks so much aggressive, thanks to the fairing shrouds on both sides. That, coupled with the gold-painted forks and wheels make the bike look angry enough to start a brawl with the likes of ZX 10R and S1000 RR!

The new 1000RR SP also has 14 percent more power-to-weight ratio than the older bike, thanks to weight-saving measures like magnesium engine covers, titanium fuel tank and mufflers. This makes the bike around 15 kg lighter than its predecessor. Power is also up by 12PS, touching the 190PS mark at 12,500 rpm. Torque figure stands at 111 Nm at 10,500 rpm. The bike is also equipped with Ohlins semi-active suspension and braking duties are taken care by Brembo. Instrumentation is also updated by the usage of a light sensitive TFT display unit which shows a multitude of information such as lap times, grip angle, coolant temperature, battery voltage, etc.
A more hardcore variant of the bike has also been unveiled by Honda. Christened as the CBR 1000 RR SP 2, the bike comes with even more race-centric bits like lighter forged wheels and larger valves. Deliveries are expected to begin by early 2017 and pricing is also likely to be revealed by that time.
