Pros and Cons

  • Pros
  • Cons

Hyundai i20

  • Well built & premium interior
  • loaded with segment-first features
  • wide range of engines/transmissions to choose from.

Tata Punch

  • The Punch pulls off muscular SUV-like looks
  • high ground clearance along with an easy to drive hatchback -like experience. Impressive cabin quality
  • clever customization options make it even more appealing. It is a sensible package that focuses on useful equipment like auto headlamps and wipers
  • electric folding wing mirrors
  • cruise control and connected car tech highlight a sensible features list. 5-star Global NCAP safety rating.

Hyundai i20

  • Tall users will want more front headroom
  • sense of space isn’t as great as it is in a rival like the Honda Jazz
  • prices have jumped up.

Tata Punch

  • No diesel engine option. The 1.2L engine
  • although good for commuting
  • lacks the power for ease of use on highway or when fully loaded. 16.5 seconds for 0-100kmph (claimed) isn't inspiring.

Recently Asked User Questions

Q. What is the difference in DCT and IVT? Which transmission is better, durable, low in maintenance and offers better mileage?
  • DCT is dual clutch transmission which is advanced and IVT is the CVT technology of Hyundai what I beleiveDCT is comparitivly costlier and yet to see it's performanceIf you want a safe bet then better I would advocate for IVT...
Q. How is the performance of i20 petrol 1.2 Asta, compared to Altroz and Baleno?
  • All these cars put out similar power performance. If we talk about Hyundai i20 1.2 petrol, this is an improved version of the older 1.2-litre engine and does help with refinement. However, power remains a bit scarce. It does its city duties fairly well and you won't have a reason to complain while commuting, but it starts to feel a little stressed on the highways or when you are looking to extract all the horsepower out of it. If we talk about tata Altroz, petrol engine feels crude to push and the three-cylinder clatter remains present throughout the rev band. The refinement doesn't feel anywhere close to what the segment has to offer. The power delivery is liner and smooth. This will be helpful in the city as it offers a smooth drive, not overwhelming you at any point. However, the lack of power and punch is evident. The engine is slow to rev and even at higher revs, doesn't feel sporty. This becomes more prominent on the highways. You will have to downshift a couple of gears to make a quick overtake or to hit a gap in traffic. This could be partially down to the Altroz weighing 1036kg kerb. For reference, the Baleno Smart Hybrid petrol weighs 910kg. While the Baleno's engine feels refined and linear in its power delivery its feels just like a Swift when it comes to performance. It is fun to drive and delivers good fuel efficiency. However, it isn't that stable a high speed as compared to other two. You may compare app these cars accordingly. Do take a test drive in order to get better clarity. Check out authorised dealership details.
Q. I am very confused between Hyundai i20 and Kia Sonet ? Which one will you prefer in the budget of 10 lakhs?
  • Selecting between the Kia Sonet and Hyundai i20 would depend on certain factors such as your preference of the segment, fuel type, features required, maintenance costs, etc. If we talk about Kia Sonet, it is tuned for comfort. That’s pretty much the ride and handling package of the Sonet. In itself, the suspension battles harsh road surfaces, surface-level changes, and potholes with confidence. What amplifies this confidence is the insulation. You hear little of the tyre and road surface, making you believe the ride is plusher. Large craters at low speeds are shrugged off with little side-to-side movement. Over sharp edges and expansion joints, you’d notice some vertical movement before the suspension settles. This never gets tiresome though, even on fast expressways. Both the steering and braking performance seem par for the course. The steering is light enough for city duties and weighs up enough for the highways. Enthusiasts could harp on about wanting more feedback, but for the Sonet’s intended use it does just fine. It holds its line well (albeit with a slight body roll) and lets you have some cornering fun in the twisties. It still remains a good value for money car for an everyday city-centric SUV. On the other hand, Hyundai’s certainly pushed expectations from the segment ahead by offering more features and more choice with the drive options, while improving on the basic need of space and practicality. Hyundai i20 doesn’t just offer loads of new tech, it also works better as a family car than before, albeit for a bit of a price increase. Moreover, we would suggest you to take a test ride before making the final decision. Follow the link and select your desired city for dealership details.

This was my first car, after dabbling with zens of the world, i finally arrived at this beauty. 2009 was the year when there were a lot of scepticism about the premium hatchback segment. However still decided against the wave and spent 10 years liking this car and my decision every moment. Reasons to like the car was always the ahead of time facilities at that point of time - auto door lock, aux connection, rear window washer, foglights ( which i had used as DRLs for quite some time). I have had a couple of trips in very precarious road conditions and evertime this trusted beast delivered. So in case you are reading this review wondering wether to buy a refurbished old i20 or not.. as long as your garage guy does not show any particular apprehension, i would say go for it.

Overall i20 is complete package in terms of mileage performance and safety.I bought this after rejecting maruti swift that time because of cheap build quality.I have mileage of 19 kmpl on highway with ac on 1 point outside temprature was around 40 degree.Ride quality is better than all other maruti cars.If you dnt wan to beleive then go for test ride. One pint to add very less cabin noise as compare to all other cars.

Tata punch will be a very feature rich car.Tata should pack the punch with features such as a 7-inch touchscreen system, A semi-digital instrument cluster, Automatic air conditioning, Steering-mounted audio controls, Keyless entry with push-button start, And all four power windows.Safety should be taken care of by dual front airbags, Abs with ebd, And rear parking sensors with camera. With all the features it would be a must buy for me as i am looking for a car.

  • 5.0

Tata punch is clearly evident that the interiors have stayed true to the hbx concept just like the exteriors. It gets a dual-t0ne black and white dashboard. It gets rectangle a/c vents which gets blue surrounds. The steering wheel is a flat bottom unit that gets audio, Telephone, And cruise control buttons. The punch borrows the semi-digital instrument cluster from the altroz. We can also see roof rails that we expect to be functional as shown on the h2x concept.

  • 5.0

Tata punch will get a headlamp cluster and the dual-purpose led drls remind us of the harrier and safari, Giving the feeling that the punch belongs to the same suv family. It has strong rugged design cues on the exterior in the form of a body cladding that surrounds the front and sides all the way to the back of the suv.The headlamps are projectors; however, We don’t know if it’s the xenon unit from the harrier and safari or just a normal halogen set.

  • 5.0

It's the best value for money car in the segment. You can get a top model with all top-notch features with a 5-star GNCAP rating in just under 10lac, which none other manufacturers offer. This car is far better than hatchback segment cars and has some compact SUVs like Venue, Sonet, Magnite, Kiger, Breeza, etc.

  • 5.0

I am very much impressed with the specs of the car.The tata punch will be powered by an 86ps/113nm 1.2-litre petrol engine (from the altroz). It should be offered with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed amt.It could also come with an all-electric powertrain at a later stage. With the increasing fuel prices i will look for ev option.
